Default GS tranny in my GS-R!?

I think my GS-R is running around with a GS tranny, reason I think thisis because I was noticing yesterday that my speed per gear was rather high IMO. FYI I just bought this car like 2 weeks ago from a Saturn dealer by my job. It's a '99 GS-R w/ 20k miles. Anyways, last night I was noticing that no matter how hard I try, I simply couldn't get the car to stay in VTEC after the 1-2 shift. The RPM's would drop off to like 5k rpms and I noticed that 2nd gear was redlining at about 65mph, 3rd at about 95mph. Now I know the GS-R tranny is a little taller than the one in my '93 GS-R, but none the less, I thought this was awfully high. I inspected the tranny for a numerical code, and all I found was "S80" followed by a long number on a sticker on the tranny near the differential housing. Can anybody in here confirm my suspicons?

you've got the gs-r tranny...landing at 5K shifting into 2nd, you are still on the high cam.

4K @ 80mph in 5th? gsr.

Well perhaps, but shouldn't I still be on the short runners? I never recall hearing other GS-R's change engine tone in 2nd after a redline blast through 1st, know what I mean?

VTC_Civic,
It's possible to land in 2nd and stay on the short runners...but it involves shifting immediately before the rev limiter and VERY quickly shifting and VERY quickly releasing the clutch before the revs drop. You'll hit second at 5800-5900 RPM.

I'm saying it IS possible, but it is definitely not good for your clutch or transmission and it may only gain you a tenth or so in the 1/4

dont the 99+ integra's have the vin plate rivited onto the tranny right beside the engine code? see if it matches your vin.........

sounds like you have a GS-R tranny.........dont worry about it........

but you know, it is worth it because if you do it right and you are listening to a CD it makes your CD skip and the change fall out of the change tray
