Default My first engine swap: D series to D series (28k stay away)

well as some people know my supercharged 1.5l mini-me finally checked out a few days ago https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=751789. from the day after this happened i was pretty much set on rebuilding a Z6 and supercharging it. i finally started the project yesterday and its coming along slowly but surely.

here is the car as it sat while i was trouble shooting. (it looks sad)

i went to kragen to rent a hoist but to my surprise the bastards dont even rent em. i had been toying with the idea o
f buying one so i got one the same day.
2 ton non collapsable for $182 this thing is F'in big

after i finished assembling it in the crammed space that is my car port i pulled the engine out.(took some time because i didnt know where to hook up the chains at first)

so i decided to try to squeeze it through on the other side of my car. it looks like there is no chance but it made it (barely) i even had to take off my rear tire and jack the back of the car up (i know youve been wondering about that) to get it by.

empty bay

after i pulled the engine i paused. how the hell would i get it out. first i was going to wait until my neighbor pulled out so i could walk it through their carport but that could take until monday.

after i finally got the engine onto the sidewalk the fun part came. here is a series of pictures that shows where my backyard is(engines new home) in relation to my carport. i hope it makes sense.

down the hill

around the corner

little farther

to grandmothers house we go

So with that engine out im going to need a new setup right? i picked up a z6

that i planned on rebuilding but i dont have the ***** (or the space) to do that correctly. so sometime next week the shortblock will be going to the machine shop to get rebuilt. yes only the shortblock because im a cheap ****. head will go later.

after it gets rebuilt ive got some plans for it. see if you can guess what these are

oh yea its gonna be fun. ill have part 2 (putting the engine in) up in a few weeks.

UPDATE- 2-13-04 cleaned up the bay and relocated the fuse box

ok got a little farther on the project today.

i cleaned the engine bay. i think i did a pretty good job.

heres a before picture. this is what the bay looked like after i pulled the engine.

after scouring the house for cleaning chemicals and tools i came up with these.

the tilex soap scum one proved to be the best and i used the whole bottle.

here is a shot after i finished cleaning. i pulled off some kind of fabric cover from the firewall and left it off because it didnt seem to have a purpose. anyone know what its for?
looks cleaner without it so i left it off.

also i like how some of the people "hid" their wiring harneses so i attempted to do the same thing. it didnt come out exactly how i wanted it to but i am very happy with it anyway. the fuse box is relocated between the evap canister and the thing in the passenger side corner. looks cleaner. i cant wait to see how itll look with a nice clean engine in there.

my engine bay is cleaner that the rest of my car
