Default car shut off on the highway

heres some more problems from my supercharged lx. i was going to the runs today right after i finished my headgasket. me and my friend (96 VR6) were playin on the highway on the way there. BTW i was pulling on him when my car shut off. so im in third gear at about 6k gettin ready to shift to 4th when it starts pulling less and less until im decelerating. so i put it in nuetral and cost to the side of the highway. try to restart the car and it sounds fishy, it cranked fast (not battery or alternator) but it sounded really quiet. so i got my friend to crank it while i looked at the engine. smoke poured out from the cam gear area and the car sounded like it had no compression. i just put a new headgasket on today. what im asking is should i even look for any problems or just rip the head off?

theres a few things u can check. is there spark??? maybe your rotor fell off the distributor. Sometimes the simplest thing can be the problem,.

Sounds like you might've hydrolocked it. Your situation sounds exactly like what happened to me---take all four plugs out, and crank it. If gas sprays sky high keep cranking it until if stops, put the plugs back in, abd be done.

really? if i let it stit over night itll have the same effect right? the thing is when the car cranks it sounds like it only has compression in half the cylinders (first it cranks slow then fast then slow). i havent had time to look at it because i have work today. maybe ill pull the valve cover and the plugs when i get home to see if everything looks normal.

Did you torque down the head to spec? reuse the same head bolts?

i used the same arp head bolts ive had since i did the mini me. i torqued it down a little too much. any way i just pulled my head off and my pistons are a little melted or warped. i guess i was detonating. the engine had a scratchy sound when i floor it ever since the supercharger. earlier i wrote it off to the pulleys rubbing because i didnt bang the body out enough. but now i know what pingin is. i was always waiting for a ding ding ding sound but it never came. instead imagine a sound that happens when a fast spinning pulley rubs on you body. thanks to everyone that said pinging, youll know it when you hear it. here come some pictures. time for a z6 so i can actually have a chance at smog

its crying

you can see some piston missing in the top towards the right i could actually see the rings.

this one is the worst. if you think its just my camera its not. its really that bad

Damn that sucks. You knew it was gonna happen tho. High compression + supercharger on 91 octane. You crazy.

All I can say is, Now you have a reason to build it right. Shouldn't be to bad, Aside from the down time. Good luck.

yea. im pickin up a d16z6 block this weekend. i think im just gonna do a mild rebuild on it (new rings, bearings, pumps, seals, and gaskets) and keep the stock internals. get a copper headgasket and clean the head up a little. the motor needs to pass smog before i supercharge it too. and im trying to do this with minimal money and down time.
