well it was time to change the oil in my hatch.. and the god damn oil drain plug will NOT budge! It wont move at all. I even tried a breaker bar, and it broke the socket off the ratchet! what the hell's wrong? I hand tightened it last time and gave it a tap with the wrench. My dad said i should use a torch to heat up the oil pan around the plug to loosen it up, is that a good idea? doesnt sound too smart to me.. anyone have any ideas? oh yeah, i was turning it the correct way (lefty loosey, righty tighty )

impact wrench didnt work either.

get a 17mm box wrench... you are gunna turn the wrench to the passenger wheel to loosen it...sockets dont work to well i find box wrenches are better.. .. it should come out... plus get a new drain plug yu are supposed to chnge your drain plug every few oil changes.. .lol even jiffy lube has a huge box of honda plugs.. i used to work there.. 2 years ago we had to change every hoda plug that came in

 

Yeah, i'm going to go buy a new plug and washer tomorrow.. I tried a 17mm wrench, didnt budge. First time i've ever seen one so hard to take out. I'm turning it the correct way.. the butt of the wrench is facing foward and i pull to the passenger side. argh

 

have you tried some pb blaster?

i'd hold off on the torch until last resort..... that could get real ugly.

 

ok this is hard to explain but i am gunna do my best.. put the wrench on the plug... then place the hand you dont write with on the wrench.. then take your hand you write wth ( more power) and hit your othewr hand.. it helps the free plugs pretty good.. never failed for me.. sorry i really dont know how to explain it..

 

how the hell did it get that tight to break your socket? maybe some cheap tools.
easy does it.

i grabbed the wrench and put my foot on the drivers side tire, and pulled with all my strength.. NOTHING. My dad did the same(he's a pretty big guy) and it didnt do anything either. I even tried hitting the wrench with a sledge hammer, didn't move.

 

have you tried any penetrating fluid to maybe loosen it a bit? soak it down in fluid and try it then. just an idea

get an extension pipe from home depot

 

1. don't use sockets.
2.use wrench
3. Use two wreches and you will get it open.

what you do is get a wrench which has one open end, and one closed end which is for 17mm.

place the close circle end on the drain plug, and now take the second wrench, any wrech, and place it on the open end, and apply pressure with all you got, it will get the job done.


My cousin wanted me to change the oil on his civic once, he last got it changed at jiffy lube. the but was soo ****** tight, i had to put all my mighty force into that, that the whole engine shifted before the bolt came lose.

 

you also could try a high psi air wrench. i got a 1200psi wrench here i use when i cant get something off. yet to not got a nut off

it might be weird but try putting your left hand on the wrench and tap your wrist with your right hand (pushing the wrench forward instead of pulling)....i work in a lubeshop and pulling or just pushing usually doesnt work....a little tap will

when you're doing that, , MAKE SURE that you're pushing it, not pullling it.

 

PB blaster and a 4ft cheater bar from homedepot or lowes should do the trick,..actually the 4ft cheater bar alone should do the trick,..i know this because i use it to get axle nuts off even though the last axle job i did,..i broke 3 craftsman breaker bars trying to get the bastard off,..craftsman lifetime warranty rocks,..(just to not confuse anyone,..a 4t cheater bar is just a lead pipe that i use to put over the ratchet to gain more leverage)

OT but when you break craftsman's tools, and they're a couple of years old, how do you go about getting a new one, without a reciept.

just simply walk into sears,...go up to the counter and hand them the broken one,..they will go get the same tool or have you go get it,..no questions ask,..no reciept needed

**** that stupid piece of crap. I bought a new one at pep boys for 2.99 with washer

now how do i get one stripped *** oil plug off? I tried vice grips... I didnt see that thing move 1cm. this is the first time i've ever had a problem like this. where's the angry face emoticon? rar

 

buy a new oilpan

 

this IS my new oil pan.. first time changing the oil since installing it a couple of months ago.. **** that.

 

well you've pretty much tried everything but the torch...
i would have used a high psi impact gun on it but i guess its a little too late for that...so i guess try the torch imo. i think sears also has sockets for strip bolts to use w/ an impact gun but im not sure how effective they are.

they actually work awesome they have these spiral things in them and the harder you push the more they dig intot the bolt, try geting one of those or maybe just go to lubestop or something and have them deal wqith it
