distributor explanations
When it comes to this topic I have no friggin clue. I'm used to distributorless and have no clue about the parts of or how a distributor works. I took my cap off and was looking at it last week and was completely dumbfounded. Whats the ignitor, whats that little twisty thing on the cap....HOW DOES IT ALL WORK...I'm lost.
I don't see the big deal, they are pretty easy to figure out. They are linked to the camshaft and spin with it. The distributor has a "rotor" on it which spins with the cam and than there are 4 prongs on the cap and when the rotor passes it a spark is transfered and sent to that spark plug wire to the spark plug. The ignitor on them is usually a black rectangle on the top right under the cap.
may not be a big deal to you, but this is the only car I've ever had with one. I'm used to distributorless ignitions. All this talk of dizzies, ignitors, rotors and the like has me all discombobulated
