OT: This is Crazy! The new W-engines of VW/Audi/Bugatti.....16 cylinder, quad turboed, AWD....
Anyone reading the new motor trend magazine about the new W-series engines that VW/Audi is building?
They made three versions of it, V8, V12 and V16. Looks like horse power war has a new champ now. The OMG W-16 makes a quad turbo, AWD 16 cylinder (four banks of four cylinders each) 8.0 liter to be put in the new Bugatti supercar estimated 2.5sec of 0-60. Making it the fastest production car at 987HP and 982 Torque. Good thing it's only building 50 of them each year.
But the new V8 and V12 will be a common engine in most VW and Audi in the very very near future.
Shieet! When will Honda learn that it's fallen behind with it's ULEV and environmental friendly crap is not gonna work. Everyone don't give a crap about the environment, then Honda is not gonna make a difference in the world! Start catching up, Honda! You 've got lots to catch up!

987HP? When did they say this?
Last i heard was that the 2003 Bugatti Veyron supercar will produce 1001HP.
But it sounds like you know more about it than me, when i heard about this car no information was released regarding details of the engine (besides it being W-16 engine).
Either way, 0-100km/h in 2.5 seconds is bloody fast.... we have a new fast car champion. Too bad the Veyron looks like crap (WV bug but stretched looking), dosn't look anything like a super car.

And btw, about the reliability issue and others, please refer to a similar thread in the kill story board. A handful of info is there.
All I have to say is **** VW. They can make however many cylinders they want but I bet that car wouldn't last on the track. All those fancy W-engines are just banks of Lupo 3-cylinder engines crammed together. I am not impressed. In most cases, I echo Honda's sentiment that turbocharging is just a way to cover up mediocre engine design. If VW really knew what they were doing they'd make an N/A monster - can you imagine the turbo lag on a 987-hp car?
What the hell would the gas consumption be on a turbo-ed 16 cylinder car? I'm guessing the only trips you'll be making with that car is from your house straight the the gas station.
It's like that Nissan commercial a few years back. The guy just filled up his supercar at the gas station. He starts the car, revs it twice, and he's on empty again. That was some funny ****!

Uhm, actually VW's are very reliable on the track. You basically have to try to break them. As for the new beast, it's kind of a flagship type thing. Look at what we can do. The reason it's got 4 turbos is so that the lag is very short.
I commend them for pushing the envelope. Dunno why people are all bitter and ****, acting as if you'd turn down a ride in the car.

I probably wouldn't turn down a ride. But I completely agree with what you are saying about it being a "look-at-what-we-can-do" kind of car, which is the reason it doesn't impress me all that much. Making 1000hp is cool but I have a feeling it will end up being the next Bugatti EB110 - all dressed up with nowhere to go.

After all...ain't our ITR also a look-what-we-can-do car too? Only this one captures many's heart.
Most don't know but there where Honda prototype cars like the NSX that never made it to production.
Also VW is becoming like Ford and which there buying up smaller or failing car marques. I've seen VW, Audi, BMW, Porsche and even Mercedes race and they don't normally break down on track.
Now the Insight in best conditions can run 70mpg. But a recent test by car mag when they drove cross country travelling the speedlimit. The best they could get was between 41-50mpg. I will admit the one thing I don't like about my ITR is that it doesn't have any punch in low rpms..unless you mod the car. But all else I could car less. But I guess I would probably get NSX the new one maybe or the new porsche or slightly used one.
