new to crxs ..need some info
Im looking to pick up an 87 crx shell from a friend for free. Body has 60 thousand miles. They were the original owners and used the car to get back and forth from the train.
What motors will bolt in to that chassis. I believe those years used a cable transmission so would i have to use a motor from those years or could I throw in a hydraulic tranny in with a newer motor. I will most likely be using it as a track car and have never raced hondas. Are those model years successful in their respective road racing classes? By the way i believe it is an HF if that helps any.
Thanks for any info

Upgrading a non-Si '84-87 CRX shell to use a later PGM-FI engine is a lot of work and will cost you a good bit of time and money, and it's not really worth the trouble IMHO unless you have a dead '85-87 Si or '86-89 Integra laying around for a parts car. Not to discourage you from such a project though - it would be an excellent project car if you know what you're doing and if you don't mind all the work. The '84-87 HF is the lightest of all CRXes, weighing in at slightly over 1700lbs.

To use a PGM-FI engine in the HF, you would have to replace the entire fuel system and do a lot of wiring. It would also be a smart idea to swap on the 4-wheel disc brakes with vented front rotors from an '86-89 Integra, since the HF had some anemic solid front rotors in the front and drums in the rear.
