Default advantages of itb's

seen alot of topics recently about itbs, and the subjects caught my attention and i dont know much about them, so i wondering about the advantages of having them. power gained, price, difficulty, and sound. also what is the advantage or disadvantage of putting like an air box on them? thanks

advantages?
-excellent (quicker) throttle response.
-lighter weight compared to most oem intake manfold setups.
-flow MUCH more ait than most conventional oem intake manifolds.
-itb's are superior to carb's in other-than-optimal weather.

power gained?
-tough to say how much power is gaind with just itb's, not many people seem to test back to back as far as itb's vs. oem style intake manifolds... usually itb's are part of the entire buildup, so there arent any good/fair/correct comparisons.
-almost no power gain on a stock motor... this can be a gain if the motor is now tuned using hondata/aem ems/etc... but a high compression motor with many other mods will respond much better to itb's.
-there is power gained though, sometimes a lot... 20 hp+

price?
-expensive as hell... around $2000 + tuning, and proper tuning may require extensive ecu mods or a non-oem based ecu setup... $$$$.
-the inexpensive way to get itb's has been seen a lot here lately, using motorcycle itb's (cbr929, gsxr750, etc.) and hack your current oem intake manifold and then go about connecting the two systems and integrating your oem sensors... these setups are no where near as well put together as complete itb setups from TODA, TWM, JENVEY, etc.

difficulty?
-install is not bad if you know your way around a motor.
-there seems to be definite advantages to people willing to have their itb equipped cars fine tuned by the few people who are familiar with itb's and the ignition/ecu/etc cetup you choose to run.

sound?
-fawkin loud as possible...

putting an airbox on them?
-potential of ram air.
-protected from heat or the elements/debris.
-quieter than running them open air.
-possibly limits the power gained by once again making the throttles pull air thru one common tube.

Ask people who have TWM ITB's what they like and didn't like and people running the Hayward (Jenvey) units. This will be good feed back from a practical application point of view.
