Default how's this for swirl removal?

before:

after:

products used:

Meguiar's #83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish (Pro Body Shop line)
Meguiar's #9 Swirl Remover (Mirror Glaze line, similar to #82 Swirl Free Polish from their PBS line)
Poorboy's Polish w/ Carnuba
Poorboy's EX Sealant

All these were applied using a Porter Cable orbital buffer. The DACP and #9 were applied using yellow pads, and the Poorboy's products were applied using white pads. The swirls were so bad that I had to go over the paint twice with the DACP before moving on to the #9.

I snapped some "before" pics yesterday, but didn't get a chance to get any "after" shots of the whole car. The sun was at a funky angle.

a good wet sand and 3m compound buff would of done the same.. but good job and great (but expensive) line of products.

I used the buffer for all the products- Lake Country yellow pads for the DACP and #9, and Lake Country white pads for the PwC and EX. I would've used a grey Lake Country pad for the EX, but I didn't have any on me.

True, but you always want to start with the least aggressive method possible. In this case, I started with the #9 swirl remover, but it wasn't doing much for the surface. I moved on to DACP and saw a lot of improvement, but went over the surface again with it and the swirls were almost gone. Wetsanding would have taken more time, not to mention the risk of burning through the clearcoat. Why use a steak knife to cut a piece of fish, when a fork will do just fine?

I picked up the DACP and #9 at some local shops... you can do a dealer locate at http://www.meguiars.com for their Pro Body Shop line. The Autopia store also has a lot of products (including the Porter Cable buffer, which is currently on special) I personally bought my PC buffer from Coastal Tool

About 4 hours total. The DACP took the longest, since I had to go over the entire car twice with it, and you really have to work it into the paint.

To be honest, no- the 3-step program from Meguiar's (and Mother's) are geared towards consumers. The Meguiar's Professional Body Shop line works much better. The Mirror Glaze products (the stuff in the tan bottles) aren't too shabby either. Both work a lot better than the products in the burgundy bottles.

Don't get me wrong, the stuff off the shelves at K-Mart/Walmart/etc etc work okay, it's just that there is better stuff out there, and it's not that much more than what you'd normally pay.

Great work.

I'll agree that DACP is an awesome product. I usually start with DACP since it isn't too aggressive of a product. If DACP isn't enough then I usually go up to 3M FI-II. I've yet come across a car where I've had to use a rubbing compound. The key to most products is generating enough heat for it to work.

BTW, I love my PC 7424. Comparing a detailing job that is done by hand and a PC is like night and day.

Same here. It was $120 and includes the 6" velcro backin pad for free ($20 value).

Another great places for pads and polishes would be:

proper auto care

Great service and a lot of info on their site about using the PC to it's fullest extent.

I can also tell you that the Mezerna Intensive Polish, Meguiars Medallion Cleaner and the P21S Cleaner are great swirl removers. Definitely check them out as well. Proper Auto has a real nice Mezerna starter kit for $20, too!
