quick mech. Q
Good chick friend of mine is coming down to houston for valintine's day and needs me to do some work on her 96 teg since she's short on cash and in school. I own a 300zx and have tore it down a couple times so i'm not too worried about it, but where is the thermostat? do i need any special tools for the job? Also I need to replace the upper/lower radiator hoses, are the stock clamps usually resuable or should i go buy some new ones? Thanks guys, I used to come here all the time on a diff sn (forgot pw/secret q' answer
) when i had my 96 hatch.

The thermostat is right below the throttle body/intake manifold on the left side of the motor (if you are standing in front of the car looking down at the motor). It is slightly below the intake 'piping' I guess you could say. Here is a copy of the manual page if you need help...

also, i think you can reuse the radiator clamps unless they look rusted or abused.

I only have 45 mins to do the work once she gets back before the car is being driven to be painted (the stock dark/forest green
), so I just wanted some tips. Should be easy if it's just to the left of the header and under the left side of the head where the radiator hose hits it. Thanks again for the informative replies.
I'll be around much more often once i sell the z this summer
. My goal is to get enough to either buy an ls with a type r motor/tranny swap or build one. A lot cheaper insurance and I need something fuel effecient with back seats for college next year since i'm transfering out of state.

The hoses get stuck onto the nipples pretty hardcore, so the large slip-joint plier is a necessity for removing the clamps and loosening the hoses.
10mm deep socket and ratchet and 10mm box-wrench to remove the (2) 10mm bolts that hold the thermostat housing together.
Smack the housing cover to get it to separate after removing the two bolts.
Bleeding the system will probably take up a good part of the time.
