Default Honda Challenge in Ontario?

Would it be possible to put together a honda challenge type of racing series in ontario, similar to the East Coast Honda Challenge?? Possiby get it sanctioned by CASC.

I see what these other guys are doing, it looks like a great series that i would defintely take part in if i lived there. The one thing that turns me off about our racing is the way cars are classified.

Perhaps a full out racing series or a series similar to vintage(ie non-contact) to keep costs down, or even a solo-1 series of our own with different rules.

Just food for thought.

It depends on the amount of interest that you have in that particular area. You really need about 20 Honda RACECARS, and 20 competition liscensed drivers to do it. In terms of convincing a sanctioning body, you might be best off waiting a year so you can use the success of the ECHC to convince them that it's worthwhile.

I like the idea of it. I know of a few race prepped Hondas in HADA with more to come shortly. It'll be difficult in my opinion getting 20 together, however, in due time it can happen, especially if there are participants from the Ottawa/Montreal area.

I'm very keen on the idea myself. I've been talking this very idea over with some of the more hardcore guys in HADA for the last few months and there's definitely some interest. I can think of at least 4 or 5 guys from our club who would likely participate in something like this. We're a CASC-affliated club, so I believe the potential exists for us to organize a series with CASC as the sanctioning body, as long as everything appears safe and financially feasible for the powers-that-be at CASC and for the competitors. Alternatively, we'd need to find a different sanctioning body or start our own. This might be biting off more than we can chew, although anything is possible I suppose.

I'd personally like to see a 13/13 rule as implemented in the ECHC. This would really help reduce the chance of righting off your car and would encourage clean driving that increases everyone's safety. If we used the same ruleset as the ECHC, we could potentially attract some of their competitors up here for a race or two at some of our more interesting tracks (ie. Mosport big track and Mt. Tremblant come to mind). Using the same rulebook would also make it easy for any of us interested in competing south of the border. Perhaps we could even have an official can-am race where all the ECHC guys race with all the Canadians. That would be pretty amazing!

I'm personally considering heading down to the States to participate in one of the ECHC races next summer, so this may be a way for us to get a feel for how the rulebook plays out on the track. Perhaps a group of us could go together.

Anyway, feel free to drop me an e-mail at dpratte4@home.com if you want to chat about it more directly.

Hi Dave,

You have some good ideas. There are atleast a dozen or so Honda racers in the Regionals. I am sure they would love to race in a series that doesn't involve having to go against cars which slow down at the finish line to prevent from breaking out of class! Not to mention many more in Quebec who would love to be involved in a different series. Many of whom raced in the Honda Michelon series and are acheing to get back into a better run series. Some of whom are trying to organize the Nissan Sentra series.

I have thought about racing in the states aswell, but because of costs and travel and time etc, it's just not feasible. Anyways, you have mail.

Nabeel
Where have you been hiding,i am very interested in the possibility of a ontario/quebec honda series and as dave has posted i to have intentions of giving the ECHC a shot next summer. From what i hear about regional turnouts this year i am sure CASC would be willing to sanction a new series as long as they get their cut.A true Can-Am series would be the best of both worlds but as you have pointed out quite expensive.Whatever ,i am there and dont mind doing a little leg work in getting things rolling and i am sure the other HADA members who have posted here feel the same way.
Keep in touch,Alex(BABzy)

I wish you guys luck. Trust me, you'll be surprised how things can come together with some hard work and determination.

If something does materialize, I think that the no-contact (or 13/13) rule is CRITICAL. It's one of the big draws of the series. It helps pull in the people who are sick of getting leaned on in other forms of club racing. And it helps people who aren't yet club racing, and are afraid to do so (like myself) because they don't want to rebuild the shell of the car every month.

Finding a sanctioning body like NASA that is open to new ideas and willing to help is also critically important. You can't start something like this from scratch - the costs of things like track rental, insurance, and so on is quite high. Working with an established group also makes it easier for you to get dates at the track.

Sponsors are the other key item. They help pay the bills for things like trophies, websites, advertising, and so on. Oh, and when you're getting this thing off the ground, you may have to pay some money out of your own pocket (RoadRacer and I had to do that initially).

Just some observations from my experience with ECHC. Hope you guys can make it work.

Hey Alex, long time! Do you have another email? For some reason, the email i sent out did not reach you.

Thanks Karl. Those are things we are currently working on and discussing. Hopefully, someday we can have a cross-country battle with you guys!
