How does the steering feel over all? Is there a lot of play in it?

There are a few differenty things that can affect your steering pretty badly.
It could be your ball joints.
Could be your stearing rack.

Check your balljoints and tie-rod ends for excessive wear.

I had a similar problem, especially when accelerating over rutted streets (like intersections).
When I replaced all the bushings the problem cleared up TONS, and when I replaced the outer
tie-rod ends it got even better. I can't wait to put in my new ball joints.

good luck

you obviously got alignment issues, so get an alignment and tell the guy to check anything obvious. he would know best. if it doesnt track straight then try to figure things out, otherwise any guess as to what is wrong is worthless.

What kind of tires? got a shimmy in the steering wheel? Tires might be starting to seperate(cords inside the tire) run your hand over the front tires feel for high spot in the tread.
