Engine go into water?
What happens if water goes into your engine. I went over a huge puddle and my engine shut down. It started again but my question is, if some water gets into your engine, does it shut down and "break" the engine immediately, or does it take some time to break down the engine?
well if it started back up and ran fine you are probably okay. if it sucked up alot of water it probablt would have **** out on ya right there and siezed the motor. but like i said if it still ran fine after ur probably ok
If water gets into your combustion chamber you are in serious trouble. The main thing being that you can't compress a liquid like you do the air in your cylinders. This puts pressures in you CC way too high for the engine components to handle. Then it goes BLAM! And you're assed out.
I have had a similar situation happen to me before. I drove through a deep puddle with my CAI and it sucked up water. sudden halted flow of air just caused my car to stall. kinda if you were to stick your hand directly over you TB. The lack of incoming air would just stall your motor. But I coasted through the rest of the puddle and the car fired right back up and everything was fine

Well it has been 2 days since i think my engine sucked in some water. Today, it started and made some weird noise. Smoke was coming from the timing belt side and some type of liquid, i think oil, leaked near the belt area? It made a loud bang noise. Does this mean my engine is blown? It just sounded like something was really messed up inside the engine. The idle is horrible and i think if i let it run, it would've just messed the engine even more so i just turned it off. What do you guys think?
i've driven through some really deep water (we had a flood here i nchattanooga about 6 months ago) and it never stalled or even sputtered at me.. so i can't honestly say i know from experience
if it started back up you are lucky
i had a frind with a 98 prelude that has a b20 in it.. he went through some deep water and sucked alot of water into the engine..
it blew the engine completely.. there were no salvagable parts left on it.. he had to get a new engine
and judging by your last post.. your's just took a little more time.. you may also need to think about fiding a new engine

When water goes into the engine and blows up, what do i exactly need to replace and what parts are actually broken? How much am i looking at if i want to get my d16 going again? Like i said, i saw some engine oil coming out within the engine bay so it must be serious? Maybe it came out of the crack between the head and block?

When an engine hydrolocks it sucks in water to the combustion chamber where pistons are moving up and valves are moving down. Since water does not compress like air does its like the pistons and valves are hitting a solid piece of concrete. Expect to replace valves and pistons if you ever hydrolock, supposing it didn't damage the block or something.
