EGT or AEM UEGO
i had been planning on getting an egt gauge to monitor my a/f ratio while driving and using a wideband o2 sensor for tuning with the aem ems and a laptop........ but now aem has come out with this gauge controller (pic) and i'm wondering if i should just pass up on the egt gauge and go straight for this unit..... this way i will have a wideband o2 sensor as well as a way to monitor my a/f ratio while driving... and on top of that it is an aem piece so it should be exactly compatible with the ems...........

so, i guess what i'm asking is: would an egt gauge have any advantage that this gauge cannot provide? thanks in advance.

i would like to know too, the only thing that i can input is that on piston engine airplanes an egt is almost standard. thats how we control the a/f mixture to maximize performance or economy. where would you install an egt, and can it be done for each cyl?
get both if possible its double the insurance, there is generally accepted rules for EGT placement for accuracy it is a simple formula that eludes me right now, but basically once you have a baseline your fine. I think that a large section of HT members agree that you usually end up having to stick it where it is most convenient and accesible, but usually no more than 6 inches from Ex mani flange.
I know that Motec has an EGT that monitors individual exhaust primaries - large dollars!

as far as placement i believe the accepted position is ~3inches from the head on your #3 exhaust runner......... reason being that cylinder runs the hottest.

If it can, I don't see how it can be as accurate as a wideband O2. I think most people who has EGT use it to set their ignition timming, not A/F ratio.</TD></TR></TABLE>
Ignition timing will affect A/F ratio. Changing the Fuel, or Timing will change the A/F ratio, as well as changing the EGT.
