Default B18C1 or Civic Type R engine in a '97 EK?

I have a '97 civic EK i want to put a new engine in it, but i'm not sure wheather i should put a GSR B18 or a Civic Type R engine in it. the Type R engine is about $600 more but it also has 5 more hp (not much). plus being able to make my EK more jdm would be awsome. any recomendations. plus if i got the Type R engine i could turn it into an integera Type R engine.

yeah the type-r is about 5 more hps but look at the torque. the 1.8 gsr is going to respond better to mods. also if you want to go turbo or no2 then just bolt it on try that with correct me if im wrong but 11.0:1 compression B16B

the b16b is a more high strung motor almost like a 2-stroker ya gotta rev the **** out of it to get power

It doesn't cost much more than a B18C1 or B16B.

you might get a better response from the forced induction people, but i would think with the lower compression, the b18c will be the better motor for boosting...

also if you were planning on swapping the pistons out, i would probably still go with the 1.8 liter.

but if you were going to stay n/a, i would jump on the b16b.

I would definately buy the civic type-r motor. The b16b has the exact dimensions of the b18c's and ls's. it is a destroked 1.8. The block is bigger than a b16a. Therefor if u swap in the type-r crank and rods viola u have a b18c5 and its a 1.8 liter. You could even swap in an ls crank and rods and have a ls/vtec. ( would be cheaper than the type r stuff.

Of course u could do all this stuff with the b18c block too, but u wouldnt have the good parts like the type r head and b16b ecu.

not to mention that the b16b tranny is much more aggressive than the gsr tranny.

OH yeah I know, cause my first Idea was to get a b18c JDM GSR and get a b16 tranny with LSD and get the type R final gear set, but I still have a strong feeling to go and do that.

so what you are saying is that if i have a b16 and want a b18 all i do is change the rods and crank. there is no boring or machining needed?
