snap ring on transmission wont go back on
I just finished replacing my input shaft bearing on my gsr. but now...
I dont know what im doing wrong but I cant seem to get the snap ring back in the groove. I am using a snap ring plier and I can manage to get it over the bearing but never into the groove on the bearing. If i pull on the case the snap ring pops right off.
Am I the only one having this much trouble with it? Is there any technique to it that I should know? tia.

your not the only one. I had the same thing happen to me. What happen was i just let it be, and the tranny made a really weird noise, for a few days, and the noise went away, and now there is nothing wrong with it. But the first time i pulled my tranny apart, we pulled the snap ring over the bearing, then tighten all the bolts down, so the case is closed. then we got a little flat head screw drive and pry the snap ring up and it popped back into place. the second time it was apart that didn't do to well, thats why i let it be. hope that helps you a little bit.
ahhha I got some help on another forum. The countershaft slides up and down just slightly so you have to position the tranny in an awkward way. You have to tilt it so it slides toward the snap ring.

I always just put the case-half on as far as I can before putting to much pressure on the snap ring, then i open the ring and push the case on the rest of the way, put the 12 mm bolts in and tighten them, then flip the tranny over to where the input shaft points up and tap it on the ground one time. You can hear the snap ring click into place into the groove in the bearing, works everytime.
yeah i do these trans all the time .what you got to do is once you got everything to spec and lined up., slide on the casing and bolt it all together and leave the snap ring open on the bearing. heres the trick turn the trans over and give it a couple of taps on the ground or your work bench check and see if the ring fell into place. it should have worked out if not your bearing and washers are installed wrong. good luck
