Default Accord starting problem please read????????????????????

Our 85 Accord (carb model) starts right up but kills after 5-7 seconds regardless of what we do with the throttle pedal, then you have to keep trying to start it for a few minutes before its starts again. If its been running its starts and runs fine Its almost like the fuel in the line is gone and then it has to get more to the carb? it seems to run fine once its going. Its does not depend on the weather but once its sat over night it won;'t start again. the oil looks like it might have some fuel in it its not anti freeze becaus the level hav not changed?? i have read about the main relays causing a starting problem when its hot in the summer and it used to do that also but only occasionally. Please i need you suggestions i am mechanical but need you guys too!

It could be a problem with a module in your distributor going out. I forgot what its called exactly but a guy at an accord place could tell you. there are 2 models a greenish one and a black one....the black ones go out. Also, it could be as simple as your sprk plugs or wires.....maybe you're fuel pump is going out. Have you replaced the fuel filter anytime? Its either spark, fuel or air. Need more info.......

Thank you for the reply,
I changed the fuel folters and plugs and plugs looked great.
Now i am sure the problem is the fuel pressure is going down after it sits because
i took off the fuel line at carb and turned the car over and no fuel came out for about a minute of cranking?? then the
fuel comes out plenty and the car will run fine. The car started even with the line off and ran 5-10 sec just off the bowls. This only started a couple weeks ago so is the fuel pump what holds the fuel up in the line??? or is there a ball check of some type?

Should i be able to get the fuel pump to rum by just turning the key forward on notch??
I don't hear it clicking until I actually get the car started the secon time after all the cranking??
Is there a relay or something i should check and bypass somehow??

The easiest way to check is to disconnect the connector at the fuel pump and hook a teat light across it. When you crank the engine it should light up. If it does, it's a bad fuel pump. If it doesn't it could be a number of things.

What is a teat??

What do you mean disconnect the connector??

The fuel pump works i can hear it click but not for the inital start up and then i have to crank it a bunch before it starts clicking for the car to run, then its fine. Maybe all the gas is draining back and its having to pump it from the tank?? anyone know?/
What about the relay, how do i bypass it or check it ??

check the main relay, i had this problem with random no start situations on my pop's 84 carbed accord, turned out it was the mian relay.

Well I cannot say it is random though, It is very predictable and does it everytime.

well the no start situation was caused from no fuel. And the main relay is the relay that controls the fuel pump, and it could be likely since your saying that after it starts no fuel gets the engine.
