Default ZC swap

Hello all,
You people on this post seem to have alot of information. My question is, will that ZC (D16A8/9) motor bolt directly to my HF transmission (D15B6) ? I have heard that any D series motor will bolt up to any D series transmission. I would really like to keep my little high geared HF tranny. I know, you would say WHY? I think the ZC will have enough more torque so that it will still feel way better than the 1.5HF and still get great mileage. I took someone else's advise and have already started on the suspension, lowering springs, camber kit. Next is KYB GR2's and polyurethane bushings.

zc will def be faster, an it should bolt to any d series tranny. but you really want to use a SI or ZC tranny to really get the full potential out of a zc. IMO, any tranny other than the ZC or SI tranny sux on a zc.

Thanks for your input. It really is nice to be able to talk to people that have knowlege in these sort of things. I have always been hardcore Chevy and this is my first venture into import sports. """Got Rice?"""

ok man i know where u r comin from wantin to use the hf tranny and save money. yes it will bolt up perfect and work just fine. and yes it will feel much better than the 1.5 62 hp monster u used to have. i ran the same set up as u for 7 months cuz i wanted to save the money and then i got moved and never got the zc put in down the road like i wanted. well i finall got it in 2 weeks ago. let me tell u...do not use the hf tranny. the zc is much better and it only costs 200 bucks with the centershaft. so just spend the money n do it right imo

I think I can get my hands on a tranny from a DX, would that be better than mine?
You know I took my CRX to Texas a couple of weeks ago and honestly got 44.6 miles to the gallon, I just hate to loose all of that. You pretty much have to be going 50 MPH to use 5th gear. I also have a 97 KIA Sephia, yes I said Kia, (1.8 DOHC MPFI) and it will spank my HF fiercely. It's the wife's car and I just can't have that, with it's five speed you can use all 5 gears, you can go 25 MPH in 5th. I would almost like to have a tranny place change 1 thru 4 in my tranny and leave 5th alone.

Ok you are more than likely right, like you are right, I will just look for my ZC with the tranny. Now that you have talked me into it, will my axles work, or is it time to make custom ones?

ZC SWAP
ECU-PG7 89 integra, PM6 90-91 CRX SI, PM7 ZC ECU will plug str8 in
AXELS-ZC tranny needs 90-91 integra axels, any crx tranny use existing axels
Header-any CRX si will work
Clutch-use matching clutch for the year tranny ie 88 tranny 88 crx clutch etc
distributor-89 integra
timing belt-88 prelude 2.0 si

anything else you need just ask, i had a zc back in the day. check out THEZCR.COM for some GREAT info

not true for the axel part. The hf axels are different that the dx and si ones. I did the zc swap with zc tranny and needed to get 90-93 integ axels, and intemediate shaft, and new knuckles, since the hfs are different. thats just what ive come across. hope this helps

A ZC tranny will need a ZC intermediate shaft. I spent a month pulling every make and model intermediate shaft from 88-93 integras, and none of them ever matched the bolt pattern on the block. Be sure your ZC tranny comes with a intermediate shaft or if you do enough looking around you can find one for about $50-$75.

If you're concerned about freeway comfort (I know, but 4000 rpm for an hour each way with no radio gets old...), get the Si trans. the ZC trans has a longer final drive but shorter gear ratios. Great for bombing around town, but suck *** if you want to go on a road trip...

if its from a usdm teg and it says d16A9 on it i wouldnt even bother. its only around 110 horse. the jdm dohc ZC(ZC will be on the engine code not d16A9) 137hp & 111lbs of trq would be worth it...its decent engine, i had one and enjoyed it...

like i said imo if you get a usdm d16A9 "ZC"(some people say its a zc but its realy not) it wouldnt be worth it...

just get a d16z6 or order a jdm dohc zc.....

NOT a D16A9

DX sucks, Like sabertooth I tried that routine 2.5 years ago, took me a week to find and put in something else. Get the ZC box. You will not regret it, DX, HF Std boxes all suck go Si or ZC best yet a hybrid of those two.

I have been running 90-91 Integra axels with ZC intermediate shafe with a DOHC ZC for 2.5 years, few weeks back I just pulled it and put in a B16A1 with Y-1 trans. SO I speak from personal experience.

Thanks guys, I ordered my ZC a couple of days ago, just waiting for it to get here. Anyone need a good HF motor with almost 65,000 miles?
