Default tranny for zc...

I am in the process of getting a zc DOHC motor and I have recently heard that I can use my factory HF tranny out of my 1988 crx. I am wondering if this is true cause it'll save me some cash. Thank you in advance for any info that you send, it is all greatly appreciated, because this is my first 4 cyl. swap. Any other tips that you could pass on would be greatly appreciated.

Yep, you can use the hf trans but it is going to suck for the zc. You aren't going to be able to really utilize the power of the zc. I know because when I was sourcing a trans for my zc I picked up an hf and tested it out and it sucked horribly.

wait shouldent only 88 crx trannys fit because they both have 21 splines and the the 89 and ups have 20 splines (ZC trannys has 21 splines). if they do get a si tranny its a 4.25 final and beats the zc trannys *** wich has a 3.88 with a short *** 5th gear.

They all should work and it will only matter when deciding on what clutch to use when you have an 88 transmission. Correct me if I am wrong.

Your tranny will work, b/c my friend has his hf w/a zc in it and an 88 hf tranny and still uses his stock axles. His gearing sucks but any D-series tranny will work on the zc, when you get a clutch just get the year of the tranny and it should work. The best tranny for the zc if your going all motor will be the Si tranny, but if you decide to go turbo the hf will be the best one for the turbo.
