Default Bullshit from the dealership (AKA Money Grubbers)

Yeah, so I went in for the inspection and they said I needed new cv boots. I'm pretty sure I do since my other friend suggested that might be the problem from the squealing. They gave me an estimate of 329 dollars. Hmm...don't cv boots cost 30 bucks? Anyways, I wanted to know if any of yall had any idea how much cv boots cost and if a novice beginner like me can replace it. By the way, I have a 1994 Honda Prelude Si with some grinding brakes I need fixed too...Any suggestions or opinions will be greatly valued.

the reason they probably gave you that high of a quote is b/c if your boots are bad. There is a possibility that dirt or junk gets into your axles that the boots are protecting. I had this problem with my previous car. I took the cheap way out and just replaced the boots and the dirt that actually got into my axles wore them down and I had to get another boot and new axles after that. The price they quoted you probably include the axles as well.

If your axles are already squealing then your CV boots were broken a while ago and you lost the grease inside of them. I would go to an auto parts store and get some CV boots that you can screw together. They're cheap and you can do it very easily. If the squealing doesn't stop then you'll need new axles and then you can go to a decent shop, NOT the dealership to get new axles. Actually you can get a friend who's worked on suspensions before and you can replace the axles yourself(with your friend's help or a Helms.)

I don't think they were ripped. He just said be very careful about your boots cuz itz starting to leak and when i looked at them they were fine. It was just leaking oil a little bit. Do you really think I can replace the boots myself? I'm a beginner and have no knowledge or any tools to even replace it. If i do, then i'll need to buy all the tools.
