Default B18C5 Turbo, what kind of numbers...

say i grab a b18c5 and toss a turbo kit on it...

i was thinking 3000 for the engine, and 1500 for the turbo kit...

-what would it cost to drop into a 92-95 hatchback?
-how cheap can i get a hatch?
-what does the swap cost?
-what is the max level of boost on stock internals?

I wouldn't go over 6-8 psi. There are better motors for boost than a type R motor. especially since you already don't have it. search my friend

Nothing special at all but we've made 300whp on several different occasions with a stock B18C5 on 9lbs. running Hondata... Personally I hate OE parts in a FI motors but I like HIGH boost and that's just me, hehe...

EDIT: Replying to your post below, there probably isn't a better stock motor to work with for the money but I'm sure a GSR would do similar numbers, I just don't like the IN manifold design, etc.

Assuming great tuning, a stock B18C5 can be pushed as high as 12 psi before any serious problems occur, but only if the tuning is near perfect. If you want a B18C5, IM me, I have one for sale. As for installing it yourself, check out the Hybrid forum as this swap has been covered many times.

I dont think the c5 is the best motor to boost. It has to much compression and was really designed for all motor. If you want boost I would go with b18a/b and boost that....it has lower compression and better for boost. If you want a vtec motor then go with the b18c1.

I'd only boost a B18C1 to low levels unless you have a different intake manifold (Skunk2 maybe). A lot of people don't know it, but higher compression means better combustion. This and the fact that the B18C5 has a larger combustion chamber, makes for an engine that responds great to boost, if properly done. Also note that the C5 has treated pistons and slightly stronger rods than the C1, also good for boost.

IMHO,I have seen some sick boosted itrs here on H-T. I also personally seen them done right with 1 of them a daily driver. B18C5 motors can take a beating in my opinion.

Actually R and S pistons are no different than any other cast OE Honda piston, they just have a tetra methyl low friction coating on their skirts...

im not a general newb here... i've done more than enough work, but never looked into doch swaps and all that with much depth...

i've much more been focused on sohc parts.

whats a good swap + turbo for around $5,000 that will yeild the highest power; since the c5 doesnt seem to be the best bet...

For me personally I would still go with a B series motor, just because I'm not all into SOHC's that much... If you're working with a stock motor (and that's just fine) the C5 is probably going to be your best start but money will probably run low... For engine managment, the only thing I would run would be Hondata and up... Hondata is good in that you have a full range of tunability and it's not super expensive... I hate FMU's, etc... It all depends on what you can get your motor for... I don't know what you're looking at on spending on a turbo kit either, but just as long as you can add your engine managment ontop of that you'll be set... For a basic street car an ITR motor on ~7-10lbs. feel really nice, if that doesn't work out price wise see how you can fit a GSR or even a B16 into the budget... $5000 is just seems a little low to try to squeeze a B series turbo motor in... Just my $0.20 again... Good Luck
