car wont start... think its my ignition switch. maybe??? need help ASAP
my car has been acting funny latley. the time in between each turn of the starter has slowed down. now, when i put the key in i hear a very light humming noise when i try and crank it. all the lights on the gauge cluster that are supposed to come on do. the battery light stays on after i take out the key (this is after an un-successful start. it turns off after i start the car). it will start if i roll it down a hill and pop the clutch. the car is an 88 crx HF.
any suggestions?

it sounds like your starter, when your ignition switch goes bad the symptom is that the key wont stay in the "on" position so its not that becasue it will turn over normally, go to an advance auto and have your starter checked.

I would say most definately your starter....the solenoid could have gone bad..especially if you dont even hear a click. Maybe check the connections first..
I believe autozone carries replacements for like 60 bucks.... two bolts, easy fix.
(the bottom bolt kind of sucks though, but it's still not that bad...)

hubby's friend is having the same problem!! and he has an 88 HF also...we had an extra starter from hubby's 89 SI so they replaced it, but now it clicks...that's all...just clicks...
and the only was to start it is to push start it...
maybe it's the same problem?
has anyone else come across this?

ok i kinda have a similar problem, like the other night i was driving home, and it cut off on me though, i thought maybe it was the timing, took off the dizzy cap, and tried to start it and saw the rotor cap was spinning so i got to looking at the dizzy i was a mess so i put a new one on, and the batt was dead so i popped the clutch and it ran, how ever , now
when i go to start the car it like doesnt start untill i let off the key now, its wierd to explain, also sometimes it wont start all together sometimes so i have to pop it alot now, and if i drive for a while my radar detector starts going off dee doo dee doo...... so im assumming its just my batt? cause when it dies i do hear a clicking sound untill it will do notihing at all.... any ideas?

I dont mean to be a *****..but you could've bought a 2 dollar test probe and check the starter in about 10 seconds flat. The line goes like this, ignition, clutch contacts, starter sol, starter. if you put a test probe on the terminals of the starter and had a friend turn the key, youd prolly have no light considering what youve been telling us...if you had a light, then you know its starter solenoid or starter itself..theyre obviously piggybacked..so you replace it...
so...anyway...not that it matters now.....so, youve pop started, eliminates clutch contacts..and you replaced starter and battery...Id say ignition but its very rare.

Im having the same problems your having . My dash lights stay on with the key on to . I havent tried poping it . I found that I had a bad connection on the starter . The power wire was touching the starter and shorted it out so I guess I fried the new starter but I got lifetime warranty. I fix ed that problem but I still have a short somewhere cause when I put the ignition in the on position the ground on the thermostat housing goes to + . Does anybody know how to locate a short because I checked all the grounds and there hooked up how they supossed to be and the only thing I could think of is that some wires fried to each other and the only way think Ill find it is if I take apart the harness & follow each wire . Dosent sound like a fun quick job huh?
