Default LS power questions

what basic bolt ons would be good for power increase but for not too too much money, im not looking for n2o or turb or sc or anything, just bolt ons, no upping the compression either.

well, i dont recommend bolt ons cuz IMO everyone(who knows what they are doing) should just skip that and go turbo...your intake and header that you bought at the beginning would now be worthless. its definitely worth it to save up until you have enough for a kit. and the LS motor will hold enough boost to get you awesome hp numbers if you get it tuned properly. but then again...thats my opinion.

Lets do some math shall we?
Intake - $180
Header - $250
Catback - $550
Clutch - $350
Flywheel- $200
________
Thats $1530

For a few hundered extra you really could make a turbo happen if you study hard and search a lot plus maybe a little luck

If your car is mainly for street, i'd just bolt on stuff, get a few generic strut bars, and leave it at that. Turbo is not practical and too expensive for street use. I have a '94 LS with AEM CAI, DC 4-2-1 header, test pipe, Greddy SP full catback, and GSR tranny (i did an auto-manual swap), and it pulls like crazy. A friend of mine drove my car, then drove his HEAVILY modified N/A GSR and made the comment that my car felt alot more torquey than his car and was quicker in the low end. That's practical for a street car. The only other modification I will be doing to the engine is a skunk2 intake manifold to replace the restrictive stock one...and that'll be that

I think he means a cold air, like an AEM, which is still more like 200.

I think you should gut the car, cut the power steering and A/C belts (free horsepower) and then save your money for a decent turbo setup. There are companies that sell complete turbo kits for as low as $2300 and you can put a custom kit together for much less than that. Good luck.

i also have a LS '00 model and i want to put in a short throw shifter and may be a lighter flywheel and a heavy duty clutch. but a friend of mine goes to ATI for becoming auto techinician. he says i should get also a KN filter, but those are like 70 bucks. plus alot of people here i think i was told keep their stock airbox and put KN into it. then u dont loose much low end torque as u would with CAI.

If you are crafty. and can find a decent welding shop you can easily make a kit for under a grand.

get a lovfab log manifold $300
Oil Lines/coolant lines $150
Used DSM turbo 14b turbo $100-200
Used Dsm injectors $100 max
check valves/and used fmu $150 max
Used junk yard intercooler $100
intercooler piping $70
Used DSM BOV $50-100
Custom downpipe. $70 (plus welding)

---------------------------total $1240, and if u get even more inventive and look for some deals, im sure u could bring the price down even lower.

Not true, I've seen perfectly reliable kits of great quality pieced together for less than 2 grand. There's nothing wrong with using preowned parts, or fabricating your own if you can.
