Default y7 y8 mini-me IM and head swap

What are you guys' opinions on this? I've read up on alot of other forums, and it seems to be good.
I have a chance to buy a y8 head and im. I have a y7, 140,000km.
What is it actually doing to increase my performance? Is most of this power gain in higher rpms because of the vtec? or do i get more power throughout the whole powerband?

I am a little concerned with the increased CR, and the reliability of my not exactly young y7 bottom end. With the increased cr, will i still be able to use 87 octane? The car must be a good daily driver, and most likely wont see anything beyond 6000rpm, no racing, except for maybe autocross.

And finally, how difficult is this swap?
parts i know i'll need is head, im, ecu/vtec ctrl, gaskets. Anything else?

i have a 96 sedan, if thats any help...

Is there much electrical stuff or wiring involved? Is everything(sensors, ECU) just a straight forward plug in?
What about timing? do i have to tune it? advance, retard.....
I think i'm ok with the actually bolt on, but i have absolutely no clue about electrical and timing
