Default quick balancing question..

I just installed ctr pistons and got the rods shaved to fit the ctr pistons on my b16. My question is are you supposed to balance the crank to the pistons and rods before you put it all back together? I had the pistons/rods balanced, and now only in vtec/high rpms my car makes vibration noises/sensation feels like coming from the engine...i have had a few threads on this and no one has been able to answer my question...

TIA

ERIk

when the block is balanced, the shop is supposed to balance the entire rotating assembly.

the piston and rods are supposed to be balanced separately.its not a v6 or v8 engine, those you have to balance with bob weights on the crank to simulate the pistons and rods being there.do you have solid mounts?are u using a aftermarket crank pulley?flywheel?

ok so then it's not that..what the hell else could it be...damn it..I am thinking maybe the valves aren't adjusted right? would that make weird vibration noises? that's the only other thing I can think of. I have a stock crank pulley and a stock flywheel..do you think I should just get the crank pully/flywheel inspected for maybe cracks or something?

if its really out of balance,id suggest taking it all apart and having someone else balance the rods and pistons to be sure.some shops will just say they did and they really don't do nothing.

I know this isn't the answer your looking for, but here's my opinion.

I'd be very surprised if it is actually a rotating assembly vibration (i.e. pistons/rods/crank) that you're feeling. If it was, I would STOP driving that car completely because you could be causing serious damage. I'd quickly drain your oil and inspect the oil for metal particles and cut open your oil filter for an inspection as well.

However, I would imagine it is more likely something related to an engine mount problem, or perhaps even a clutch/flywheel problem. If it is a clutch/flywheel problem, once again you could be causing SERIOUS damage to your main bearings etc...

Please give us more details on what happened: i.e. did you pull the engine, full rebuild, new mounts, etc...

I installed ctr pistons, mugen head gasket, and mugen thermostat. Pulled off the head, left the block in and just dropped the oil pan for ths piston installed. I had the rods shaved to fit the ctr pistons and the guy said he was going to balance them...I also replaced the rod bearings...I have been driving this car for about..a month now and there haven't been any problems performance wise, infact it's pretty quick! but that noise is still there..I have a stock clutch, stock fly wheel, stock crank pulley, stock mounts..So I don't know..If any honda gurus in southern cali wanna come hear it gimme a holler haha..

could be a driveshaft issue, like the inner joint on one of your axles.
or it could be a broken/torn motor mount as well.
does it change with RPM or MPH?
you can check those independently too.
good luck dude
