I know you should change your belt every 60,000 to 90,000 Miles depending on driving habits (hard/soft). The thing is im looking at buying a 94 Integra LS 4 Door
it has 130,000 miles and it runs really nice from what i can tell (im not a mechanic so i don't know what my opinion is worth :0) I've already had a timing belt snap on me on me (94 LS 2 door 115,000 miles) and i don't want it to happen again. I got lucky that after the belt was replaced it started and drove fine but i don't want to try my luck twice.

To Sum Things Up: Could i do some kind of a visual or other easy check to see if the belt has been changed or if i'm going to have to change it soon.

Even if they changed it at 90k or 100k, the belt would still have 30k or 40k miles on it. It wouldn't look new anyway, so I don't think you could do anything to prove it was or wasn't changed. Does the previous owner CLAIM it was changed? Do you trust him/her? Is there anything like a receipt for the work?

If you aren't really convinced, I guess I'd change it now just so you're sure.

 

I would have to agree. Without service records it is very hard to tell exactly when a timing belt was changed. Worst case scenario is that they changed it at 60k miles and it is due again. I don't think it would ever last to 130k miles so you should be ok to drive the car for a while.

 

my OEM belt lasted all the way up to 125k before it snapped on me, from now on im changing at every 60k to prevent damage, etc

 

to be honest, if you are buying a used car with high mileage, chances are they havent done the timing belt change.

There are so many factors that attribute to the life of the belt. As someone said earlier, without service records, its hard to guess how well it was maintained.

To go beyond, if the car was beaten and driven hard (as many tegs owned by youngsters do), then you have more things than just the timing belt to consider.
Do the belt change and consider it insurance.

 

I think who ever owned it took care of it. It's a darkgreen 4 door with a beige interior (very very clean no rips stains) has absolutely no mods everything clean and un-modded. It has new tires it runs smooth and quiet.

I guess my next question is : would a timing belt last 135,000 miles? because if not then the previous owner had to haved changed it somewhere in its lifetime. Then i could hold of on changing it for a few mons (low funds) i don't really plan to drive it much more than 10 miles a day until i do change it.

Damn I thought you were taliing about one of my cars that I have for sale there for a second. If it were my car, I would change it regardless. DIY is about 60 bux, shop about 300, good investment I believe.

Change it! Belt kit w/water pump from inlinefour.com $150 or just belt is ~$60 from Len. Lift car, remove side dust cover crap, undo crank, mark gears, crank and belt w/perm marker, transfer marks to new belt, put back on. Done. C'mon, tell me that 3 hours of work is not worth it.

 

just look at it, see if there are cracks on the outside as well as the inside of the belt. they are cheap anyways, and it's peace of mind. that thing goes and your done
