Default backfiring at high rpms, please help (searched)

i have a 92 ex sedan, w/ msd, intake, high flow cat, and 2.5" exhaust. when my vtec engages around 5000 rpm, by car sputters, and back fires real bad, and the tach bounces real fast from like 3-6k, its really starting to scare me so i dont even rev above 4500, any suggestions??? could this possibly be a bad vtec solenoid?

the stock coil seems to not keep up with the demands the 6al makes. i'm planing on upgrade'n next week, don't want to take the chance of the stock coil just giving up and leave'n me on the side of the road.

got MSD 6AL with blaster 2 coil, msd wires, and ngk plugs gapped at .030. sometimes i still get backfire as well. seems like an air/fuel problem in my case. maybe yours too.
