Default Checking the timing on a 97 EX, 4 cylinder VTEC?

I was reading through the timing check procedure in my Haynes manual, and I can get everything set up correctly, but how the hell do I know if the the timing is set correctly at 15 degrees (or whatever the degree measurement is) beyond TDC? How do I measure the degrees in general? And, is there a better step-by-step on doing this procedure?

It's probably like all other Hondas... There's 4 notches in the edge of your crank pulley, the one all by itself is TDC (use that one for camshaft timing). Then the other 3 are a big one with smaller ones on each side. The center one of the 3 is the correct spark timing (16 before TDC?). The little ones are the tolerance, maybe +/- 2 degrees.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Mike813 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">i dont see 4 of em anyone have a clear pic of what im looking for? </TD></TR></TABLE>I don't have a picture, & I'm only guessing... I bet the red one is stock timing, & your pulley doesn't have the little ones on either side to show the allowable tolerance around the stock point. They'd be about 1/8" away from the stock mark.
