Default ALOT of Carbon bulid up in the exhaust ports?

After taking off my greddy turbo kit off the car i realized that there was alot of carbon bulit up in the ex. ports of my head, so i got a screwdriver and plucked at i t and it started to come of and more i plucked more of it came off, does this impair my performence since it is slowing down my exhaust flow to the turbo causing more lag to be present?? Is there something that i can do to clean out those ports ??
Head is ported and polished

Yes, removing the carbon will help to optimize performance, check your air/fuel ratio. If you're running rich, then unburnt hydrocarbons could be the cause of the buildup.

I would think that a dremel would be overkill trying to get off carbon, but give it a shot, it may work out great.
