OMG - almost hyrdolocked... still not sure, any tips? help!
Can't believe it..
Was driving to a friends house from work in some rain - Most of the driving was on the highway right up until I had to get off the exit ramp at which point I had to drive through some streets...
On the highway I didn't go over 3k RPM - I was very watchful of that - but whenever I tried to my car started to feel sluggish as if it was fighting me - I left it at that and kept driving.. Once I got off on the exit I was going real slow and watching for puddles - I NEVER directly went over a puddle but apparently enough water splashed onto the filter that as soon as I pulled up to the driveway my motor STALLED..
At this point I'm freaking out and my friends help me push the car in the garage (I didn't crank it after it stalled)
The air filter was obviously wet - We took all the spark plugs out and cranked the motor - no water shot out of the spark plugs...
Took the intake off the throttlebody and water leaked out.. I wouldn't say poured - but a good amount did come out... and it soaked 3 towels when we put it inside the manifold..
Drained the oil...
Let one quart of fresh oil go through the motor straight out the oilpan until we filled it back up with oil..
Cranked the car.. no hesitation..
Drove it around for a bit, the car still pulls, vtec still kicks and I'm not feeling sluggish.....
Phew... but I will not sleep well tonight until I wake up tomorrow and do a compression test...
hope all is good, but wouldnt I hear something if I fucked something up?
If I had to think of why my motor was saved (if it is) is becuz of the GSR manifold - Never let the 2ndaries open allowing less water to go in.. sigh

UPDATE:
Car drives fine - Did a compression check and it came out 235-240 .. right in between there somewhere on each cylinder.. am I in the clear?

dude your fine you did not hydrolock the motor, the word hydrolock means LOCK you just sucked up enough moisture to kill it. ive seen hondas hydrolock you will know the difference it can bend the rods and it will lock because it is full of water. and you have to fully submerse the intake in a big volume of solid water to hydrolock it because if it is just sucking up small amounts the valves opening and closing will let it out so you have to have a rush of large amount of water to completely fill a cylinder on its compression stroke to hydrolock it. and besides if it was full of water it would have shot all over the place when you cranked it with no plugs. actually im a mechanic and it happens a lot on GM 3.8 V6 engines but they are amazingly strong and you just pull the plugs crank it over and put the plugs back in and go after fixing the leak, they leak coolant internally from the intake manifold
i hydrolock'd my 87 crx a couple tiems, NOTHING happen'd.
it foul'd the plugs because of all the gas that got in there. i got it out of this huge water hole and crank'd it over till it started. then rev'd the bitch up and up over and over until it stop'd smoking and drove off. clean'd the plugs when i got home, and everything was fine.

this is not hydrolocking. Moisture, waterdroplets, whatever, can and do go through the engine with hesitation. LOCKING is when the engine cannot compress water inside of the combustion chamber and something brakes. The energy has to go somewhere, and its usually out the side of the the wall of #1 cylinder.
For all of us that have hydro'd we can account for the fact that it usually doesnt happen going fast, it doesnt put up too much fuss, it doesnt blow smoke or stumble, it just sounds odd, and stops. You then leave parts of the engine on the road as well as a slick of oil.
good luck
