how much tuning did you do?
i seem to be pondering a walk into the dark side with a turbo to my d16y8. although toying with the idea, my brother brings up the fact that there is much tuning and retuning. does this hold true? inputs guys
Payn did my tunning. 99 civic si b16, drag kit, built with stock sleeves, and hondata. They billed me for 2 hours and I gained 40 whp. The best $320.00 I ever spent.

once you tune it you won't need to re-tune it unless you make changes (more boost, etc)...
if you go with a kit that comes with a fmu or blue box..there is no tuning required ( because you cant)

Yeah as long as you don't stir the pot....You'll alway have to monitor it (I.E afr, egt,fuel/oil pressures etc)

Wow, that is all they charged you? I am going there very soon to get my Hondata tuned. I hope my bill is similar to what yours was! I was expecting it to be closer to $500.

Uhh like a year playing with situations on the computer, and a few weeks worth of dyno time...... just cuz i experiement, but anytime you change something, you'll have to retune to adapt
no tuning whatsoever
Turbo GSR in 92 hatchback With thicker headgasket to lower cr to 9:1
13.5@107 on street tires @ 7 psi
Saving up for hondata over the summer with some nice fuel nuggets and ofcourse some time behind the dyno, broke as hell right now with school. Barely got gas moneyfor the beater let alone textbooks.
If your not boosting too hard, its quite safe, and some people have really pushed the limits of the stock ecu and fmu setup. Can't wait for hondata and 12 psi.....(goal is for 11's on stock longblock)

Why?
Why?
i had my car tuned on the street with a wideband. my a/f is around mid 11's all the way across the board. it looks like a straigt line. BTW it took us probally about 2-3 hours to tune. my car goes on the dyno just to see what im putting down on feb 21st. so ill let you guys how it went.
Tuned by VTC_Civic and im loving it!

you people are forgetting some really important things here.
I hear, " took me 2 hours" "didnt take me any hours to tune"
First of all, there are different definitions for "fully tuned" Most people dont realize, its very simple to tune WOT. thats 1/3 of the battle right there. what about the other 2/3's of the fuel map that you cant reach on a dynojet.
I recently got to use a Dyno Dynamics Dyno. it was pretty sick, you could actually sit there and tune at different loads/speed, etc. Dynojets you cant.
You also have to take into consideration the system you are using. Hell it takes me probably half the time to tune a hondata, then it does an AEM EMS (although I like the ems better). It takes a while to setup a perfect accel pump (tip in throttle) as well as idle and other ****. with hondata its more simple, but you dont have the features.
thats why you guys shouldnt compare it in "hours".
it also depends on the tuner, the supplied basemap, and the equipment you are using.

yep, sadly, this is a prime example of skewed info here on honda-tech
