Default Hid question for pros

I got a question about hid projector light output. I recently purchased TYC one piece headlights for my eh2 and installed an h1 hid kit. It has no glare whatsoever buy it also seems to have worst light output than with the stock halogen bulbs.

It seems that because there is no light output from the tip of hid bulbs the projectors give great area coverage but the distance is shot. Like I said before the h1 halogen bulbs has more distance than the hids.

Is there anyone who can explain why cars like the s2000 and Audi has such great light output from their housings? Is there any website that can show the exact focal point of the luxury cars that make their light output so superior? Last, Is there anything that I can do to my existing projectors to increase the distance? (i.e putting foil around the projectors or modifying the bulb to go in the housing further.

I hope to get answers to all of these questions. I hate using the stock headlights even though the light output was great after slight modification, there was too much glare.

Thanks.

Heres a thread that will help:

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=747166

What K bulbs do you have first of all?

Sum: The light output in halogen housings with aftermarket HIDs will never have the same effect or lightoutput as HID headlamp specific units.

Damn 8500K....

Let me enlighten you on some more info...The higher you go above @4,100 yes the lower the lumens and less actual light output....We all know that.

A web-site that I can't remeber to save my life right now had the perfect example. They had a Factory equiped Lexus GS400, and against a white garage door and @20 fet away on the left was the factory DS2 Hid bulb...In the right side was a DS2 6000K bulb...I can't explain all the glare and how the light looked like **** and went everywhere...

Your projector may be better if it were a 4100K bulb...The S2K light bulbs are 4100K but there can be a different "edge" around an HID depending on some of the mixes of Xenon gas in the bulb.

I already know about the kelvin thing. how 12000k is black light and all. I was just wondering if there is any way to increase the light output modifying the equipment that I already have. I am Searching through http://www.hidforum.com to see what would be the best OEM retro for my housings. Thanks for the responce.

It will be like night and day

It's going to be very tough to get the same lighting output in the aspects of distribution, intensity, lack of hot spots as an OEM setup.

Retrofitting is your best bet and understand that Philips and Osram supply HID bulbs to BMW, Audi, Honda, Porsche, et al. There is no substitute.

Anything above 4300K is veering off from OEM specs. The S2000 uses Philips bulbs and I believe Hella lenses (a common combo). The ballast is made by Mitsubishi. BMW uses Osram bulbs. Osram tends to be more whiter (4100K) than Philips bulbs which trend toward the blue (4300K). Bulbs get bluer as they age per Philips. But understand that the whole color factor that dazzles the ricer in us is the result of a combination of factors including the weather environment you're driving in!

All these guys I see on the internet and on public roads using this and that kit is:

1) Illegal
2) A safety hazard
3) A waste of money (IMO)

Retrofit an OEM setup and do the best you can. Or, just pony up and buy a car that comes with projector HIDs stock.

I'd personally just stick with what comes with the car from the factory. Spend the money on driving school or take your mom out to a really nice dinner, again.

FINALLY COMPLETE!!! Too bad I don't have a digital camera.

The first housing that I retrod took approx. 9+ hours of labor and the back has lots of holes that are not needed. The second housing took slightly under 1hour and is perfect. . I guess without an exact guide, this is expected.
