Where can i get "poormans" swaybars for a eg hatch? what are the good brands or sizes, i often see 13mm or 22mm whats the difference? Thanks

 

also where do they connect? can i have a rear lower tie bar and also have a rear way? SORRY FOR THE NOOBNESS

 

Ok, first, search, your answers are out there. And second, if you plan on gettting any performance from your parts, don't go "poorman". If it's just for show that's one thing, but for anything else just save your money and get something better.

well i never go poormans unless its things that dont matter for instance a pipe with a filter on the end, or a metal bar that stiffens the chassis, i guess with a swaybar it matters so thanks for letting me know but does anyone have any places where they go for pretty cheap, i checked ebay and =no good

 

ITR sway bars are good and fairly cheap.

Most people who do have a poormans sway setup usually end up with a ripped subframe. its up to you but I would say go with a sway bar thats been proven, this doesnt necessarily mean to go with a name brand. How the make the sway is also important, is it hollow? what is the bar made of? how strong is it? how much does it weigh? what comes with it? a hollow 22mm bar could have the same effects as a solid 13mm, and yes some sway bar kits do have tie bar.

 

IIRC, the sways from a GSR should fit on your eg. Also, rear GSR sway isn't as big as ITR rear sway so shouldn't be any issues with ripped subframe. People typically go overkill on swaybars and think that bigger is better. You've got to match the bars to the rest of your suspension to get the right balance...

if you go with the 22mm itr swaybar make sure you get the beaks kit to prevent subframe tearing. Even then it still isn't 100% bulletproof though . A couple of people on this site with the beaks and itr bar setup have ended up with torn subframes.

 

man thats crazy i wouldnt even mess with that then, can anyone suggest any good rear strut bars?

wait, does it really matter on the sway bar if the subframe rips? isn't it the subframe that is weak? i mean alot of people's subframes have ripped and they have a good quality sway bar...i think you just need reinforcement ,no?

IMO its the fact that people will often run the stiffer sway bar (whatever brand it may be) with stock or innappropriate stiffness suspension. If the suspension travel is limited by the use of stiffer shocks and springs, then the addition or use of a thicker sway bar will not put so much stress on the subframe. I've had the ITR bar on with Progress coilovers and a Beaks kit for 3 years now, and have had no problems whatsoever. A lot of fun, but no problems.

IMO, if you are looking for an inexpensive set up, just use stock Del Sol vtec ones.

 

man, i've always used the suspension techniques set ups. they work great and have never had any problems with torn subframes. they aren't that expensive either, especially for the eg.

cause i know my friend with a '00 si and apexi WS damper kit..put on a mugen sway bar and just ripped his subframe up..but then he put that kit..i don't know the name..but it's a reinforcement kit

i would segest just getting the gsr sways, they bolt right in and you can find them on here for very reasonable prices. if not there is always the junk yard. i got my sways from H-T.

I dont trust the beaks kit imo,

unles your running really stiff springs to go along with it
(which actually is the real reason subframes tear,
if your springs are too soft then the bar does all the work and
rips through your subframe).

a rear tiebar like the comptech one is perfect protection,
and I dont really see a subframe tearing with it... I mean.. of course
theres always that slim chance, but i've never heard of it happening and doubt
I ever will.
