What's up with my brakes?
The other day for some reason my brake pedal was going all the way down has far as the clutch pedal goes. I don't think the front right brake is working at all. When i need to brake i have to press the brake pedal all the way down and the front left locks up and I know the right is still rolling. I changed the brake pads a year ago so they should be good. Could this be the fluid being too old I've never changed it since I've had the car. It's a 89 civic std/dx. Can someone help me as soon as possible. I don't want to end up in the back of a car.
well if its beena year, might wana check pads, rotors, master cylinder, (which sounds like a problem) and fluid, have you checked your fluid lately? is it leaking? when your at a red light does the pedel go down after a second while your foot is on it?
Actually I have the same problem you described. The brake pedal feels great and really firm. But when I come to a red light the brake pedal slowly goes down till it's almost at the floor. I'm guessing my master cylinder is leaking. Can I rebuild it or do I have to buy a new one? Thanks.
To bleed the brakes you need two people unless you have speed bleeders or a vacuum pump. Just have one person sit in the car and pump the brake pedal 4-5 times slowly. Then on the 5th time just press down on the brake pedal. Have the other person get some clear tubing and place it over the bleeder nipple on the caliper. Loosen the nipple with a wrench and when fluid stops coming out tighted it back up. Repeat this process till no more air comes out of the lines. On a CRX I believe the correct order is LF, RR, RF and LR.
