Coilovers...
I am currently riding on cut springs and stock struts (bought car like that), and i am looking to upgrade my suspension signifacantly. This Spring I would like to start auto-xing my hatch, and I want to have the right equiptment, but more so I want safe stuff.
I want to spend right around 400 dollars for the whole deal. Right now i see my options being KYB AGX's, new for right around 300 bucks. I like the whole ajustable stuff, and I have heard very good things.
As for springs, I dont know what to get. I have heard that GC are good, but they are like 300 dollars new, and I just cant afford to spend that much money. What are good alternative coils that i can get for around 100 dollars, mabey a little more.
I have heard good things about skunk2's also, but again they are expensive also. Would you reccomend any other brands, or mabey someone has some good coils for around the price im looking to spend?

both of those are good choices, but I wouldn't skimp out on your suspension, especially if you are going to try to be competitive. At the very least buy the shocks and some sort of stock like spring, then when you can afford it buy the GC's or Skunk2's. It's not worth it to buy something that just works, you want something that works well. So I say save your money a little longer and get something better

well said, dont go cheap on sus.

Don't go cheap on suspension. If you're really strapped for cash, you should look at the classifides (already mentioned, I know). But for like $500 you can get a decent suspension setup. Look at the packages at http://www.inlinefour.com. Tokiko blues are a good choice, but if you want adjustable, you're going to spend a lot more on a good setup.
I've been thinking it over, and i think im just going to go with springs instead of coilovers. I just dont want to be unhappy with the drop on my car when i install them, thats the main reason. I can get H&R springs for like 150 or cheaper, so I will probly go with that. Any one have H&R's on a EG Hatch with 15's? whats the distance from the fender to the wheel. Sport or Race also?

KYB AGXs and H&R Sports. Right around 400-450 depending on where you get 'em.
I would avoid Race because they drop the car a fair bit and the rates are sort of high, also. Don't think the AGXs will last long with them, though they might. I'd use Konis for H&R Race.
You are smart for sticking to a budget. Don't let the nutriders sway you into some bullshit tein basic suggestion, either.

Yeah, I figure that this is going to be my first season auto xing, so ill probly suck so bad anyway, it wouldnt matter if I had the top level tein's. Its all going to be about improving my own driving skill. I just want somehting better then halfway blown struts and cut springs, u know what i mean?
id spend less money on the struts unless you plan to autoX or something of the sort adjsutable struts aren't what you need. look into some good non adjustable struts. like KYB Gr2 i think thats what there called. and then get some GC coil overs.
look at it like this you buy GC coil-overs now your set for the rest of your cars life. and a plus is if you decided you want soft/stiffer spring rates people will buy the springs off of you. then you can buy what you want. with struts its a wear item, bottom line they wear out and since you don't want to spend alot of money it doesn't seem like youd want to buy a rebuildable strut.
so what im saying is go with some cheaper struts and GC or just wait awhile save up more money and then get adjustable struts and GC. or **** even now just buy the GC throw them on then later on down the road when you have more money get some good struts.

ok, so heres a question, besides the ajustability of the agx's, are they any better then the gr2's? I guess that ajustability is just a novelity im stuck on. Am i better off going with a good set of GC's and get the gr2's? I just dont want them to blow right away. Im definatly not going 2 be tucking, but i want mabey a one finger gap to the fender, or right at the fender. In my mind thats the idea drop with my blades on my hatch.

Thats exactly what i was thinking...whats a good strut thats going 2 be under 300 dollars for all 4 of them then...

heres my suggestion. get some illuminas and find some stock springs. go compete in Stock class autox and have fun and learn until you can pay for some quality springs like H&R, neuspeed street and eibach pro kits. i would wait on ebay for some great deals, illuminas can be found new for way under retail, and used springs are fine.
if you start with a street kit like eibach pros and want a bit more performance, then get a rear sway bar. (everyone, please know a SWAY bar is VERY different than a STRUT bar, ask me later for a clarification if you really need it.) it will increase your rear spring rate during turns yet not affect your ride comfort as greatly as then upping your rear springs rates alone.
then, if you decide that you want to adjust your ride height or use custom rates for even more performance, then i suggest you ONLY get GC sleeves. dont get skunk2, cheap copy that does not show the same amount of thought in design that GC does. they tend to give universal spring rates and sleeves, when GC actually gives specific model kits that provide a better fit. plus, GC gives Eibach Race Springs, who knows what Skunk2 gives... read my coilover FAQ for more info and advice.

I agree and say you save your money and buy a good set up! You can sometimes even pick up a set of Apex N1 or Tanabe Suspension for about $700- $800
