Default Blown Motor??? Help!!!

most of you don't know me on this board but i pretty much just hang around checking out the topics. i have a 96 4dr Civic with Type R swap and things went downhill today. any input is appreciated and thanks in advance for you help and time. okay while driving a little hard today something went way wrong. i was going from 4th gear up to 5th and 5 seconds into 5th the car lost power and the motor just starts making all kinds of bad sounds and shuts off. crank the car back while moving and put it back into gear to limp it off the interstate. get it to a gas station and look at it. the motor just making clunking sounds a little at idle and a lot more with a little bit of throttle. so against better judgement i limp it back a little closer to home traveling at like 50mph or so. the car won't go above 3k rpm in 5th and then just dies. motor takes a few last breathes and then no more. i know that it is blown but any ideas on what exactly may have gone? pistons, rods, or what? and what kinda of work am i looking at? i will have it towed tom. moring to the shop and have them tear it down to see what's up. just tring to get some ideas for now.

thanks,
H.

Chances are your timing belt went south. If your valve cover is cut so U can see the cam gears, check to see if there are missing teeth of the belt chillin in the cover. Also, if you're gonna crank the motor, see if the cam gears move, and see if they're both lined up correctly to each other. I think your belt slipped, so your motor jumped time, and from driving it, it killed it even more.

Clanking sound that increases with throttle...you probably knocked a rod....sorry dude. It just gives you a reason to build that baby into an NA beast now

Default This is what happened...(Shea-bird)

One of your rod bearings spun all the way man..and that rod is just knocking on the crank during each rotation....

clank clank clank clank clank...higher RPM..the faster the clanking.

Since you drove on it, you might need a new block. Good time to go CRV block anyway.

YOur crank is probably chewed up, and might not be fixable...and I would not even want to fix it anyway...getting it back to stock size is very difficult and expensive...better off buying another crank. + metal from your bearings probably chewed up the oil pump perhaps....and maybe even some more...

What will happen if you drive on it with rod knock is your rod will most likely break in half up by the piston from all the stress and your rod will go right through the side of the block.

I was driving a car down the freeway and it spun a bearing, I heard the rod knock, and it did exactly that...oil everywhere.

It was an old beat up 91 integra...200k on the motor.

Also...a few people I know with Prelude motors have done it in 5th gear at high speed....the crank is just gone...time for a new block.

Yep it's a rod knock alright... That happened to me the second week i bought my car... Car struggles when i get to speeds like 60-70 and it gave out on me and put a 2"x3" hole on my block right behind the header's... So i went with a motor swap... My friends told me that i beat that motherfuking D16 very very bad and he didnt want to stay with me anymore
