yes and also, the heads are completly different with different stamps, manifolds, different trannys, one being LSD the other not, on the bottom of the block where it connects to the tranny, there should be a aluminum bracket and not 2 cast iron brackets..

Check to see if the VIN number plate is in place on the block. If it is from Japan it will begin with a J. From the US usually begins with a 1, Canada 2.

I can't think of any that begin with 0. I didn't think there were any. I work for Progressive Insurance and we have a VIN format chart that tells us what each digit in the VIN means and how to decipher it.

Ben is a cool person to deal with. A buddy of mine has picked up 2 Type R's lately and both of them were clean and I know his runs pretty good. He is a legit and straight forward and has awsome deals. I think that is were my motor is gonna come from.

actually JDM motors donty come with VIN plates. none of them do. instead they have 2 holes where the rivets are supposed to be. just like 1994-1995 gsr trannies. no vin plate just 2 holes. even on the block right above the oil pan there is no VIN plate just 2 holes where teh rivets that hold the plate on are suposed to be. i have a jdm motor supplier here in atlanta that i get jdm motors from when im in a bind and none of them have plates on them

my friend and i both have gsr trannys on our b16s and they both say s80, im not posititve but i thought 'r' trannys are y80. dont put your money down on that one though. also if its a true 'r' tranny there'll be a black stamp reading 'LSD', if it wasn't somehow removed.

Sounds to me like somebody is ripping them off. Why would they do this?

i have had 3 jdm motors from the same supplier; 2 b16 1st gens and 1 96 jdm b18c type r motor. nonw of them had VIN plates on them. VIN plates are specific to US cars. japan domestic market does not usilize the VIN system. even their cars dont have vin numbers on the dash like us cars. no one is ripping anyone off when they sell jdm motors with no VIN plates. the supplier i deal with is very reputal in the atlanta area. i think you jus might be confused because someone told you that jdm motors have VIN plates on them.

ask anyone on here that has bought jdm motors from HMOTORSONLINE or other reputable sources and they will tell you that their jdm motors dont have VIN plates on them. that is another reason it is so hard to track stolen jdm motors unless the BLOCK code is on file with the police or proper authorities.

I do believe Japan utilizes the VIN system. I have had customers quote VIN numbers from vehicles with a right-hand drive steering wheel. It comes up as a "gray market" vehicle, sometimes we won't insure them.
