Just go to any autozone or pepboys, the all have em. They look like a thin pen but extend to like a foot or something.

sounds to me if you've never heard of a telescoping magnet, then maybe you shouldnt be messing around with the head on your car? just an idea

Don't worry I have experience with the same problem. Only mine came off at the track, at the top of third . Just drop the oil pan, pull out the nut and you'll be fine! I reused the nut. Yes, it can and did fall all the way down to the oil pan.

man...that sucks

when i was going to adjust the valves on my buddys h22.....he pulled the valve cover and a washer fell down in there....and we could not find a small enough magnet....however i was able to grab it out of that "port" with some long needle nose pliers....i wish you the best of luck

Cheers
David

i don't see how it could be in your oil pan,
if it fell in the ports, wouldn't it drop down in the cylinder
and be sitting on top of the piston?

Ports are either for oil or coolant (most likely oil since we're all the way on top of the head). Since we don't intentionally mix oil or coolant with the fuel/air in the combustion chamber, there should be no way that the nut would end up on top of the piston if it fell in the ports...
