I have my system hook up to my 2004 civic factory cd deck and all I pretty much hear is bass from the 2 12s, lol...

How much difference would an aftermarket deck make over the factory one? Thanks.

I want to hear the mids and highs while the bass is hitting it hard. Becuase right now, all i hear is the bass and just a little of the highs and mids.

 

you'll want better speakers with more power to them. That is what you're lacking right now.

Not fully true. A co-worker of mine has a 2001 Golf GL (the super base model) which has the dual component sets factory. We put a MTX Thunder 6500D in with two 8000's in a ported box... sounds really nice in that car. For the mids and highs all he did was swap the 6.5 woofer from the front component set with a set of Cerwin Vega Vega 6.5 coaxials he had laying around. You can hear the mids well and the highs scream, and they are all being run off of a way old Eclipse head unit. Depending on the setup a 4 channel may not be required. But it sure as hell wont' hurt. You will gain more SQ from the 4 channel, and the overall sound will be more balanced.

 

yeah but to get the best clarity and control without buying crossovers, EQz and other ****, youre better off getting aftermarket headunit

Pioneer has the best control cuz you can shut off or control the subs from the front and it has a built in EQ to fine tune in different ranges IMO IMO dont flame cuz i love Pioneer...

 

Aftermarket head units tend to provide more power to the speakers, resulting in cleaner sound... Alpine makes some great decks, and I'd consider Eclipse the king of decks, albeit they are more high end.

Eclipse units have the ability to fade the sub seperate from the rest of the channels, if you're looking at tuning down the bass a bit.

see one thing you guys gotta realize, the only way to truly get a clear sound to the speakers is to amp them up... The way they rate the headunits is they turn the volume aaaalll the way up, distortion and all, then test them like that...Consider, an amp that is 50X4 is bigger than the size of a headunit. The amp is only set to run signals to speakers. The headunit has the antenna, all the programming stuff for the radio stations, pretty colors, cool graphics and ****. There is no way possible to get the best quality out of the stock radio...

BUT WHO AM I TO TALK, I'M STILL ALL PIONEER HEADUNIT BABY!!! amping is nice, i did it before, you can hear it 2 blocks away, but im fine without it...

 

I went from the Stock headunit (rocking the cassette player ) to a Pioneer DEH-P8000R. Pioneer was nice and flashy, but after a couple of years, motorized screen wouldn't go down anymore, volume buttons wore away even though i used the remote 95% of the time. I recently got an Eclipse 8443 and the jump in sound quality was unbeliveable. I was a diehard Pioneer fan, but now I have just seen the light.....ECLIPSE all the way.

 

Did you set the treble high and the bass low?

 

instead of getting crossovers, eqs, and an amp to push your interiors...get some good interiors and an alpine 60x4 head unit...i.e. 9815..., you WILL be satisfied. just make sure you read the manual and tune the system accordingly. on initial install of my system, it sounded like complete and utter...****...now, with the alpine tuned...awww helll....damn this **** sounds good.

1st to answer your question: YES, an aftermarket headunit will sound better than the factory headunit

2nd: you said you have your system hooked up to your factory head unit.......is this an amp to power your 2 12's or do you have a multichannel amp?
this is important because an amp for the subs is not a system
