Default Caliper and Valve Cover Paint Question

I'm painting my calipers black and I bought some VHT 550 degree paint for to do this. I also bought some 500 degree wrinkle paint to do my valve cover. Are those temperature ratings high enough? What could happen if it isn't high enough?

They will work. I used caliper paint on my VC, and I didn't use primer so now my paint is chipping.

Use primer first

Its high enough for the valve cover at least. Not too sure how hot calipers get. If its not a strong enough paint, it will bubble or crack. Make sure you clean and sand the hell out of the calipers before you paint or else you'll be stuck with a bad finish and/or specs of grease under the paint. Nobody like a crapp paint job, on any surface.

For the VC the 500 temp should be fine, but the calipers I would recommend the 1000 degree paint (safer than sorry). Just also make sure you clean them both really well (for the caliper you can soak it in coca cola or bust out the dremel and let it do the talking) and for the valve cover I know its been covered as far as cleaning etc. Clean it, sand/prep it, prime it, paint it and clear coat if wanted. oh yea, take b4 and after pics...makes it even mo' betta'.

Default Is it necessary to prime the Brake Caliper before painting?

I'm just about to "paint" my Rear Brake Calipers, but before I do, I wanted to make sure that I'll only have to do this once...

After about 8 months of prep-work, I've gotten my Calipers fully restored to a usable condition, and now they're Bare Metal. Having spent so much time on them (all hand tools), I wanted to keep the Bare Metal look... So I bought some VHT Clear Coat rated to 900*F.

From what I've read on this and other sites, there is still some debate regarding whether a paint primer should be used. If this is the case, are there any Clear Paint Primers available, so that I can keep the GENUINE Bare Metal look? I don't want to "cheat" by using a Primer + Silver Paint + Clear. But if that's the only option, then whatever. Or, if use of a primer is not "required", can I go ahead and apply the VHT Clear directly?

Is there anything anyone recommends that I do between coats (sanding, etc.), whether using a primer or not? At this point, it seems that simply spraying the VHT unprimed will be "good enough", without any between-coat work...

My Calipers (and a few other parts) have been masked, and I'm ready to go. I just want to make sure I'm doing the things that lead to the best, longest lasting results...

If anyone's used 900 deg. VHT Paint on their Calipers (any color, UNPRIMED), please chime in with how long you've been running with them, and their current condition... Pix would be great!

Thanks in advance!

... For anyone who makes the assumption that I haven't already filtered through 300+ search results: How do you think I found this thread?

There might be some confusion as to why someone with my signature is posting in this forum, so to help "CLEAR" things up (I don't post here often)...

First off, I am not painting my Valve Cover... My D16Y8 is still stock...

Second, I don't want Red Calipers. I don't want Yellow Calipers. I don't even want Black Calipers. I want my Calipers to retain their Bare Metal Finish, and I want them to be protected from Rust, Scale, and Grime... Hence, the VHT CLEAR...

Here are some pics of the Caliper and Spindle (another part I'll be "painting" with VHT **CLEAR**), BEFORE I removed the Rust/Scale/Dust/Grime...

Here is a pic of the same Caliper and Spindle, AFTER making them Functional again...

I just want to be able to protect the time and effort I've spent over the last 8 months from going to **** ( https://honda-tech.com/zero...72431 ).

Anyway, thanks for the views, and thanks for the help!
