Default Spoon N1 Axle Back...

If this topic is WAY played out, mods please delete...
I just came across a really good deal on a Spoon N1 Axle-back Exhaust and need to know if the sound is THAT loud. Is it loud and buzzy? Loud but deep? Any 1st hand experience is welcomed and appreciated!
I had myself set on getting a Mugen Twin-Loop for an Si axleback and modifying it for the ITR axle-back due to the high quality and the great sound. I don't like loud, buzzy exhaust's that attract too much attention from cops and the local rednecks etc.
Any feedback on this issue?
Thanks a lot.

Have you considered an HKS axle back, it sounds sweet. No raspiness at all, nice and deep but not too loud.

I just put mine on ebay.

I've been on the Spoon fence for some time too (should I go quiet or all out?)

You know, when I was buying my exhaust for my Miata, the others on the Miatanet said that the Borla was way too loud. Well, I bought one and sometimes I don't think it's loud enough! I guess it's all just a matter of your taste. I just hate that feeling though when you think "should I have gotten the other?"

From what I've heard, I'll go "all out" and get the most I can from an exhaust on the ITR. I don't want to be thinking "golly, I could have spent this money and gotten a few more hp here, and gosh darn it... it's not THAT loud anyway."

I have the Spoon N1 axle back and I don' think it's that loud. I like the fact that it's got a really nice deep sound to it. I think the Apex N1 muff is a lot louder...

I can attest to that. Last week I was speaking to Bryan by phone while he was driving. Sounded like he was in a race car.

Yes, It's loud as hell. I was pulled over by the man no more than 5 minutes after I installed it.

Dunno H guy,

Thats what you have right? Rodney has a Thermal R&D on his and I think it is quieter than yours.

My choice is the Spoon Sports Axle-back...

A.

PS maybe I just forgot what your sounds like or maybe all the other R's were too loud that day! He he He...

I currently have R&D theremal exhaust before they made the stealth ones which are alot quieter. For me and few friends the R&D and N1 spoon sound alot alike. I've been told it's mixture from V8 sound to Super Bike sound. Also if you drive around town don't run in vtec cops think your racing even when your not. I've heard the N1 below vtec and it's not that loud atleast in my opinion. But for the most part you will never get pulled over atleast around here since some Mack trucks, modified pickups, stangs, cameros and bikes here can normally drown out even my car in the vtec range.

Well, I haven't heard Rodney's Thermal. But Thermal R&D exhausts are known for being loud. I've owned the following import exhausts in my lifetime, and I'll rate them accordingly, based on my personal experience and not hearsay.

Greddy SP (4dr GSR). Nice throaty tone, nice gains, high quality build.

HKS mini drager axle-back (98 ITR) raspy due to a hollow cat, but not too loud and nice overall.

APEXi Dunk 115 (94 GSR hb) LOUD, RASPY, ANNOYING, COP MAGNET. nuff said.

HKS "old school" twin plug cat back (91 SI hybrid) quiet, didnt flow much, outdated.

APEXi WS (00 ITR) quiet for an APEXi brand muff, decent build, no noticable gains.
sold it, was not satisfied.

5 Zigen Fireball cat-back. Quietest, best quality for the buck, mellow tone (NOT RASPY) Best import exhaust I've ever owned.

APEXi N1, OUT OF THE QUESTION, driven many cars with it on, NO WAY IN HELL!

SPOON N1, REALLY OUT OF THE QUESTION. THE LOUDEST RACKET CAN THIS SIDE OF THE POND. NO WAY!

Hey everybody,
Thanks a lot for all the information. Couldn't have asked for more details, I really appreciate it! I hate to turn down a really good deal I can get on a Spoon N1 but I really want a smooth low-key sounds with a little bark in VTEC so it looks like the N1 is not for me. I used to like the look of the 5Zigen Fireball, but it'g growing away from me recently. I may end up shelling out the dough for a Mugen Muffler.
Thanks again!

I was thinking of doing the samething. I was thinking of buying a used civic si mugen muffler and modifying it to fit

The Mugen won't disappoint.

Plus, you'll feel so much lighter after dropping all that money!

I love mine and wouldn't trade it for anything less than a custom 2.5"-3" stainless twin-loop system.

Well, it would cost about $200-300 more, thats my reason for not getting it(the spoon sport exhaust).

I used to have the Spoon N1, and it give a nice deep tone on my car with just I/H/E, but once you put in the cams, it became really damn loud!! What I meant is you can't even talk to the person beside you unless you are under 2500rpm!! That is when I sold it and get the KakimotoR catback!!

The Spoon Sport Exhaust retails for usually close to $200 more then the N1, so after the nice deal I was initially getting on the Spoon N1 the Sport would be approx. $300 more
Oh well, I'll stick to my original plan and pick up a Mugen Axle-back for an Si and get it modified to fit. It's gonna be scary seeing it getting hacked up

I understand that the Spoon sport exhaust is more $ than the Spoon N1 - but compared to the Mugen you are planning to buy what is the price comparison?

Oh ok,
The Mugen is $500+ approx $30-$40 to get it to fit properly. The Spoon Sport is right almost $700, direct bolt on. I like the look and sound of the Mugen anyways so I'm looking forward to it. I still have to wait and save for a bit though. I may also do a Carsound 2 1/4" cat with stock B pipe and stock manifold to see if any power can be had.(I've been told not to run a high flow cat with stock B pipe and manifold but I'm willing to give it a shot)

What exactly has to be done to the Mugen Si exhuast to get it to fit the ITRs? Is it a pain, or what?
