Default fender bender question

here is a question that totally random, but i thought id give it a shot. The other day in the parking lot i hit a newer camaro going about 3 miles an hour. His bumper actually split, not just cracked, but split down the side. The split is a couple inches. Im 16 and dont want to ttake this to the insurace people because of how high they will raise my rates. AN estimate at a body shop is about 1,200, because they need to repalce the bumper. Does this seem right? Any other ideas or am i going to have to fork the 1200?

That is extremely ridiculou$. Go to the junkyard and get a bumper support, the actual metal piece of the bumper, along with the foam that sits on top of it. Then get a new aftermarket cover and get that painted. Installation/removal is extremely easy and requires at most a 10mm socket and ratchet and a large screw driver.

Can you provide a pic cuz I just can't understand $1200 for a bumper. Is it front or rear?

sounds kinda steep but body work is exspensive. Just paint matching it would be pretty steep. Few hundred. I am paying 60 bucks to get a rear quarter panel extension piece paint matched. And that is fairly small. I can only imagine what they charge for bumpers. new bumpers I am sure arent cheap from the factory if that is where body shops get their parts. then removal/installation cost. I would just bite the bullet and claim it. Would you like if someone was like hey I hit your ****, lets patch it up with duct tape...especially on a newer car???
