In a weeks time, i will be installing a 99 USDM ITR swap into my 92 EG hatch. At the shop where i am getting the work done, they happen to have a JDM ITR tranny with the 4.785 final. Will there be a huge difference in the 2 trannies? Is it worth the extra cash to have them install the JDM one?

There is no such beast as a 99 USDM ITR...we only had them 97-98 and 00-01...
the final drive is for quicker acceleration, goes through the gears quicker...
I forgot more about hondas then you will ever know....

nah, keep your $$$ and the stock tranny. when you get up money and want to upgrade, swap in a clutch type lsd, 4.93 final, flywheel etc.....

It's a nice change from the normal 4.40 final drive.
You'll notice the difference right off the bat - it's not some minute little upgrade.
Acceleration is greatly improved along with about 15% of more torque too.
If you do get this 4.7 tranny, I suggest you get a lightened flywheel also - man..lightened flywheels should come standard on every Honda!

Yep...Im sure there is quite a bit of differance.
Going from stock tires to 205/40-16s changed the final drive from 4.40 to 4.59 and I can tell a differance in that..so Im sure a differance from 4.40 to 4.78 will be quite noticable.

hey katman, do you think getting an itr tranny for my ls is good or spend the money elsewhere?
yah it's good..cuz not only will it help acceleration..but if you ever upgrade to lets say, the dreaded LS/vtec setup or even a B16A....all you need is the long block...not the whole engine+trans.
Yes it does.
Final Drives are "rated' with a stock size diameter. In alot of cases the stock diasize is 23.44" (195/55/15)
If you were to use 205/40-16s..the diameter changes to 22.46"...a whole inch smaller...which in turn changes the final drive from 4.40 to 4.59.

Although I didn't drive the car, I rode in yeahls' ITR equipped with JDM final drive at the ITR Expo and even from the passenger's seat I could tell that the car pulled alot harder when the driver got on the throttle. I was impressed when exiting turns how fast the car was and there is a noticeable difference!
