with the car in park, the tranny shouldnt move, you the crank bolt should come off with regular tools

Dude to find TDC you need to take the valve cover off and look at the cam gears...they have lil arrows and you align them facing up i believe to get piston number 1 to TDC
I went through the hassle of the crank pulley. They'll try to tell you that a strap wrench and a breaker bar will get it off in a book, thats BS. Impact the hell out of it. It'll come right off, no turning. If the crank pulley doesn't have a mark on it for top dead center(it should though), get the crank pulley off and check the gear on the crank shaft, maybe that will have a mark on it to line it up. Make sure that number one is at tdc and that number four is not at tdc. Check the distributor to make sure it's ointing at number one, just a tip. Good luck, timing belts are a pain in the ****.

i hope you guys dont think im stupid. really long day today and my brain was working right. i did infact overlook the timing marks on the crank pully. i got the timing belt and water pump on tonight and everything is running good
i have a helms for my civic but not my teg. i shoved a screwdriver in the access hole to get the crank pully off. ive done everything you can imagine on imports and domestics, but this was my first time working on this motor. i feel stupid for posting this haha.
