motor code for H22 Type-S (Spec S)?
yes, its H22a. Its not different at all. Look for the vavle cover, and then look for the SH style everything. i don't see anyone putting one of these motors into anything except a prelude SH, cause thats what they mimic.

Im sure its a H22A?? something.. I wouldn't think it would have the same code..
yeah, I know they're different... the differences are explained with great detail and illustrations here: http://asia.vtec.net/beystock/honda/preludes/
however, no engine code is assigned to it... hmmm....

Graphite Accord is correct. The code for the TypeS motor is just H22a... Similar to the way the Japanese Integra SiR B18 motor has the same code as the Integra TypeR Motor (B18), the Honda JDM engine codes make no distinction between power output or internal components.
The 220 HP version of the H22a was available in Preludes in 2 versions in Japan. One is the Prelude TypeS. The TypeS has the same block and tranny as the US TypeSH. The tranny is ATTS just like on the US TypeSH and it even has the exact same gear ratios as the US TypeSH. The 220 HP H22a was also available in Japan in the Prelude "SiR Sspec". The SiR Sspec has the same block and tranny as the US non-SH 5spd. It has the same tranny gearing, but it has an LSD while the US gets an open differential...

P.S.
Also interesting to note is that the Prelude SiR model, rated at 200HP like the US, was only available in AUTO with the 4spd sport shift tranny. (This is true for at least MY 99 and 00) The SiR had the option of 4WS while the "S" variants did not....

OT from 5g USDM Helms: I take it standard 5 speed tranny code is the M2Y4 and ATTS is the M2U4?
How many quarts of tranny lube can I expect to put in this weekend? 2 quarts? (I'll just be draining from the drain plug on a regular 5g 5 speed)

You are 100% correct, the ATTS is standard while the LSD is optional!

I could have sworn that the H22 is the USDM Prelude motor, and the H22A was the JDM. I've been quoted on several H22As, which were NOT the Spec S... so the Spec S must have a unique alphanumeric designation... shouldn't it? After all, Honda has a unique alphanumeric code for each different type of motor it produces...
H22A1 and H22A4 are the USDM motors. JDM motors are just H22A, even the Type S one.
Hmmm, did the JDM motors ever change from closed deck to open deck?

just to had a little more confusion ..

the LSD is NOT OPTIONAL on SIR S spec
it's either LSD or 4WS car ..
no LSD or not options there
and yes type S got ATTS
i believe that theese engine makes 220 PS and not HP
and i don't think it would be really wise touse their enginewith our gaz quality
they are using 98there..and are mostly adjusted at thelimit with their gaz ..
sorrysapace barproblems..

how do i know if its automatic. am i screwed. do i have to buy a different tranny.
thanks

I think Prelude trannies require Prelude halfshafts in Preludes, and Accord half-shafts in Accords... but I'm not 100% sure. As for whether or not it's automatic or not, did your tranny come with shift linkage?
it looks just like this.

220 hp and 175 TQ and 11.0.1 stock
If you can get your hands on one GET IT AT ALL COST.
And if you set it up just right you can pass smog. 1 of 2 ways

The Type S motor is pretty much a H22 with all the beefed up internals... anyways... I was just informed that I might have one available for me... if in fact this is true, what exactly will I need to overhaul when I do my swap: H22A Spec S in the place of a F22B1? ECU and tranny will go too... but what other parts? fuel pump, fuel rail, distributer, etc?
