Default Turn Signal Stick broke! replace?

1990 Crx Si

Hey guys, my turn signal stick just behind the steering wheel snapped of. The rod snapped down in the steering wheel at an angle, so if i twiddle with it i can get the lights on but...

...i'd rather just buy a new one...

None of the local shops have this part, so i assume i have to go to the dealer...does anyone know if thats something you buy seperately? or do i have to buy a whole column or somthing?

I can't even get the damn steering wheel off to pull the cover around the indicator of, to look at it. Took the H covering of the horn of...and there's this small bolt in the middle, almost looks perfectly round...maybe Alan wrench but don't think so.

Any suggestions?

i cant remember off the top of my head, but i think its a 14mm or 17mm nut inside the steering wheel. after you pull the wheel off there are some screws or bolts that hold the piece down with your turn signal / wiper controls on them. once you get the steering wheel off it is really easy to get to.

i picked up a used one from a parts yard that had the intermittent wiper control on it and if i had remembered to grab the large relay behind fuse box i would have intermittent wipers. but i do remember the swap being a very easy process.

hth,
J

Hmmm....under the H, there's the horn plate, which is about 2x3x1 inches...and right down the center is some sort of screw...but i don't see anything else to undo...

i'll have to take another look at it when i get home...

Thanks

Ah-ha got it! A 17mm worked.

I actually did some ghetto work, so i can now now turn on my lights with just my finger, but i still can't use my indicators... , but the emergencies work!

The main probally with it all is that the light stick didn't snap conviniently half way up, but right at the very base buried right inside a part that doesn't come apart. booo

I got one from the junkyard for $5. A dealer will probably charge like $250 for that thing.

haha, i guess we all break our "sticks". I did when i was snow driftin one or two years ago.
yeah there all pretty much the same. New would be nice, b/c it wouldn't feel ragged out, but the junkyard is the best/cheapest place to go.

Thats easy to replace, i just replace mine, but switch is from DX with no rear wiper. (i also just replace my rear hatch door form Si that has wiper) so i have rear wiper that the cable wiper and water squirt-ter that cabling is not attach to the steerring switch.

Soon as you get those steering wheel off with wrench, 17mm and extension. you can pretty much just pull every harness off those main switch, untill its completely free. then you can either replace the part you need or get the whole switch.

The chalenging part is when, trying to get the steering wheel back, MAKE SURE when you take it off, you center your wheel first.
I just take off mine like that, and i recenter my steering wheel by driving it, and readjusting it every red light (he he he ) sounds silly, but hey..
if anyone know how to recenter the steering wheel at no cost, please post!!

Ummm, well if you can, make a mark somewhere inside the steering wheel with a pen onto the threads. That's what I did with my Momo. Works every time.
Yeah, my Dx actually had a rear wiper, but I broke it a long time ago. My new stick is from a crx, so there's no rear wiper switch.

Now to rewire my squirter for the air horns.
