Default Hot Tanking vs. other methods.

I have access to a parts washing machine at a dealership I work at. The machine is pretty big, larger than a full size refrigerator. I was wondering if this is the same type of deal as "hot tanking". I asked one of the mechanics how it works and he told me it will clean just about anything if you leave it in there long enough.

I can use this machine whenever I want, and wanted to make sure this would get the job done. I have a block and head I need cleaned. I'm trying to save money here. (as usual)

Does anybody have experience with something like this, or should I just drop off my stuff at the machine shop?

Thanks.

thats just a hot water dishwasher... this is the best and safest way for aluminum parts. Now days, this is what almost all machine shops use. They work very very well!

hot tanking is a large vat that usually has a caustic chemical thats heated. Best used for cast iron parts.

Hot tanking is bad to aluminum. Use the jet wash. Thats what you most likely have.
