I've never been very impressed with the quality of Iceman intakes. Has anyone compared them to the AEM or Icebox?

Not to rain on your parade, but butt dyno is not good enough. Only timeslips and dyno sheets are proof.

And of those two, dynos are the only sure one. Time slips are too driver and weather dependent.

ICEMAN is comparable to the AEM CAI. But the ICEMAN lacks the durability of the AEM. And at $20 bucks more, the AEM CAI is a much better value.

Has anyone heard of an iceman race only version intake??? Jeff of import review did a comparison of the race only version versus a generic intake i believe and saw a tremendous gain on the dyno? Does anyone know exactly what this race version is??? OR has pics of it???

"Race Only" must mean Drylands setup...which is the AEM style.

Or is it WITHOUT the Air filter??!!

Don't know about durability, but both seem to have similar performance gains. I don't really think the Iceman would wear out on me, just that I can get the Iceman cheaper than the AEM by a significant amount.

when I dynoed my car I also tried the ICEMAN filter. It lost Hp in low rpms but it was the same with my AEM cold air intake. I stuck with my AEM cold air intake.

There was a race version intake for the Civic. It replaced the pass. headlight with a headlight shaped scoop that connects directly to the pipe that goes to the throttlebody.

Congrats on your new iceman intake!!

A very long time ago during the mesozoic era of my experience with Hondas, I bought one of these iceman intakes used for my old GSR.. after I spent a few minutes with K&N filtercharger cleaner, I installed it, and dynoed it.. Not bad.. (see the dynocenter link below) and much better throttle response than the convoluted stock intake tract on the GSR.. Now, the ITR has a much straighter intake path, but maybe I'll go for a Comptech Icebox next go-round for comparisons sake..

Living with the old Iceman another matter.. it has all these weird resonances at low RPMs, which means ya just have to put the foot in it to make it sound right..

Best Regards,
Harry

Maybe cuz the ICEMAN's are rotting on distributors shelves and they wanna move 'em out. The injection molded plastic the iceman is made out of cannot handle prolonged heat the way the AEM's aluminum tubing can. I installed an ICEMAN on my cousins '99 SI and that thing is beat now, after only 1 year in the car. The plastic looks "dryed up" and brittle. As where my AEM is two years old and going strong with no problems.

I had an Iceman on my Prelude and an AEM on my ITR. FWIW, considering different cars, I like the Iceman better. The AEM gets too hot to touch after driving it awhile and the Iceman was only warm because of the plastic construction. I don't know if it makes a difference in performance or if that's just perception.

I do second the comment about resonant sounds on the Iceman though. That sucker was loud.

The warmer outside shouldn't be much alarm. It's the warmer inside that would be a problem. Give the insulating coating on the AEM, I don't think the outer temperature would be that close to the inner temperature.
