Does anyone out there run any kind of insulation on the hood above their turbo to protect the paint?

What did you use and where did you get it? I was thinking about trying to find something similar to what is found under DSM hoods above the turbo and manifold.

 

Check out this stuff. http://www.mmrusa.com/HSreflectcloth.htm. Kind of expensive, but it'd get the job done. They also sell Reflect-a-shield which is used a lot of times to insulate around catalytic converters and such.

 

yea, that is expensive. It doesn't even have an adhesive included.

 

Dynomat makes a hood liner and maybe other self adhesive stuff you might be able to use for that.

 

good aluminum foil and glue goes a long way

 

summit sells one that protects up to 1000 degrees on one side and 2000 degrees on the other depending which side you want to use and its made by DEI it comes in 36"x40" sheet and is 55 bucks, seems alright to me....

 

would something like this work?

 

Go to any hardware store and pick up insulated foil pipe wrap. It's adhesive on one side, and can withstand 400+ temps. The kind I bought came in a 8"x10' roll and it was like $9.99 or something, Works good.

someone should chime in, but i hear those break

also in my car, the manifold is the hottest part of the exhaust system and heats up the hood severely...
i need to wrap my manifold

 

Bought mine from ATP, I had 2 both of them broke.

 

can you touch your exhaust manifold after driving with heat wrap? how much does it cool it down is what i need to know

I have my manifold heat-wrapped and I can touch the manifold after driving - the stuff works wonders on under-hood temps. The only side effect is that my engine takes about 3x longer to heat up when it's really cold outside, but I'll deal with it

ceramic coatings help out alot...i did my mani turbo housin and dp

 

Just so some of you know, cast manifolds are known to crack if heat-wrapped. heat cant escape and it will crack were the manifold gets the hottest usually.

I HAD A FEW OF THESE MADE. pretty much like ATP's, but just not polish. if you're interested, give me an IM.

Ive also got a question, say I have a bunch of header wrap left over, can I put strips long my hood where the mani is close? Or would that somehow work against me?

Just get some heat shield for under the hood from DEI, worked for me

I've got one of those on my Maxima, the turbo sits really high, so I wanted to protect the paint on the hood. Doesn't really seem to do much, but at least it looks nice and hasn't broken yet.

Its your friend. I have it on my hood, ramhorn mani too.
