Weird whining sound coming from pulley area **Video w/ Audio** 56K danger ------>
This just started on me yesterday. When the engine is cold, everything is normal. But when it starts to warm up, there is this whining noise from the pulley area. It goes away when its revved, but then comes back at idle. But you can hear it more when the engine is shut off. Not sure what this noise could be. Hopefully this link to a clip I got works. Oh and sorry for the file size being big 3megs

First off , good job for posting a video w/ audio describing the problem.
makes it a little easier.
Did you just work on it? meaning, did you just change anything, like timing belt? anything?
or all of a sudden just started making that noise?

if your talking about the whiny noise, i had the same problem and it was the main seal, but your timming belt could be too tight, explaining only doing it when hot
Havent touched my motor in about a month now. Last things I did was a basic tuneup. And yes, it just started all of the sudden. But the funny things is that it does not do it when the engine is cold. And Ive also noticed it NOT happening about 3 times when its warm at idle, I give it a few revs and it comes back
Didnt see the previous post before mine. But yes, my first thought was that either the water pump or the timing belt need service. Ive had that engine for about 40K miles and dont know if the timing belt was changed before. But is that what the timing belt sounds like when its going? Perhaps the noise at the end can be more precise to help point out.
I just had a 99 Prelude with the same symptons that whinning noise. there's a TSB which is the hydro-tensioner, they start to leak and loose tension and belt becomes loose and causes that noise. if you look with a flash light (carefully) you can see the t-belt flapping more than usual. btw after the repairs the noise was gone.
